Is $25,350 a good price for a Rogue S 4WD?

I've never purchased a new car before and am planning on buying a Rogue in about 3-4 weeks. I went to a dealer today and, saying I would pay in cash (no financing), this is what they quoted me:

Is that a good deal? I live in central Virginia.

Thanks so much!

There's quite a bit of useful info in these threads.

Price Paid for 2nd generation 2014+ Rogue

2015 Rogue SL Premium + All Options + What should I pay

15 Rogue Lease/Price Paid

To answer your question, the initial selling price is too high, so they're giving you a fictitious $3,053 "discount". You should start at Nissan's website first: http://www.nissanusa.com/buildyournissa ... ild.button

Version: Rogue® S All-wheel Drive Price: $24,390
Destination and Handling: $885
Total MSRP $25,275

Purchase Deal:
0% financing for 60 months; OR up to $750 cash back (Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, West, Southwest)
Deal Expires: 10/05/15

If you take the $500 rebate off the MSRP, the final price is $24,775. The real discount amount they're giving you is $1,040. You're still getting it below MSRP, they're just not being honest with their numbers.

I agree the price is too high. Did you see the actual MSRP sticker price on the window? Did the dealership pad the MSRP with add ons like paint protection ($500-$800), or even a "market adjustment" to up the price. These are common ploys dealerships use to pad their profit, and would show up on the window sticker on the vehicle.

I took pictures (sorry for the poor quality):

OK. The sticker doesn't say if the Rear Bumper Protector is rubber or chrome. For the sake of argument, I'll assume it's chrome as that's the price Nissan charges. Both types can be found on eBay and are dead easy to install as they're held on by a couple of strips of 3M double sided tape. Takes all of 10 minutes to install, 5 of which are needed to drink a beer first.
Chrome $69; Rubber $40.

Splash Guards $40. A little harder to install as they're held in place by screws, but hardly worth a $100 install fee.

$210 for the 6-PC mat set is a fair price, if it's the all weather set.

It's up to you if you want to haggle over the price of the options.

If the sticker says $25,790 which includes destination fee and options, then where did they get the selling price of $27,288???

Exactly. That's $1498 above what the MSRP says.

So in reality it should look like this:

Selling Price: $25,790
Discount: $1,555
Rebate: $500
Adjust Price: $23,735
So you are getting it below MSRP.

And remember, Nissan is offering UP TO $750 cash back (rebate), so they're pocketing $250.
DOC FEE $598 is BS. Anything over $200 is pure profit. Maryland has a limit of $300, Virginia has no limit.

If you're comfortable dealing with these people, tell them you won't sign any papers showing the selling price of $27,288.

Tell them to go f*ck themselves and move on to the next one... There is NO explanation that I would accept that would make me comfortable doing business with them after that

Thanks so much for all of your help!

What do you think is a fair price OTD if I go back and try to haggle with them?

Take followngnfront's advice and go to truecar.com to see how much dealers in your area are marking off MSRP. If the dealer won't match the best truecar price for your area tell them you're leaving and going to a truecar dealer who will.

Here's what TrueCar gave me:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/5b0ra7vudowqp ... r.pdf?dl=0

The second one in there has the same VIN as the quote the dealer gave me (shown in my first post).

Is the TrueCar price the OTD price? Does it take into account a discount for paying in cash instead of financing (if there usually is one?)?

Thanks again for your help :-)

Truecar prices do NOT include tax, title, license, or doc fees as those vary widely by state, and even city/county. Truecar also doesn't take into account dealer add ons like paint protection packages, etc, as again those vary by dealers (some dealers have add ons others don't). As far as a discount for paying cash when buying a new or used car from a name brand dealer, that practice went away a long long long time ago.

They are offering 0% financing. That is free money. Why pay it all off now? You can make more money using the extra cash you have on hand. Plus you will build up your credit.

Since these a-holes already tried to screw you, what makes you think they are going to give you any kind of discount for paying cash?

My credit score is pretty bad (679 equifax) and I am self-employed and don't really have a verifiable income, so I assume they would turn me down (they never did a credit check since I said I'd pay in cash).

How did they try to screw me? Isn't the quote they offered pretty close to what the second quote in the truecar document I posted (which is the same vehicle) says?

I know this isn't an apples-to-apples comparison, but I just picked up a 2014 Nissan Rogue SL AWD with Premium Package used with only 5,000 miles for $24,900 ($26,600 out the door). The car is in excellent condition as you'd expect with such low mileage.

I'm excited to join the Rogue club.

They tried to screw you by listing an artificially high number for the MSRP and then giving you a "discount" to what the actual MSRP is...

Thats bending you over with no vaseline.

NOBODY should pay MSRP even without rebates.

You should be able to get invoice price without much trouble.

And 0% for 36 months is another red flag... Nissan is offering 0% for 60 months.

I see what you're saying now. Yeah, that does seem really shady. I guess it's possible it was just an oversight, though.

Anyways, someone recommended I check out Autotrader and I found a similar Rogue that's about $1k less!

I emailed to ask the OTD price. Thoughts?

One thing Ive learned from experience... Really painful experience... Is that dealerships NEVER overlook anything or make simple mistakes. Its always a calculated and well practiced "mistake".

If I had to do it all over again, Id go truecar all the way.

Amen to that... Even if you don't purchase through truecar, you should go to their website to see what a good price off MSRP is and have that info before going to the dealer...

So I emailed the dealer about the one costing $22,756 and asked if they could come down in price at all. They said:
We are actually selling this vehicle $1,000 below invoice and then subtracting the $500 Customer Cash and $250 Finance Cash.
Their 'documentation fee' is $598 (retarded, but apparently all dealers in VA do this from what I've read) and sales tax is about $950 based on the quote from the other dealer, which would make the OTD price $24,304. This is $1,046.44 cheaper than the first dealer!

I've been looking high and low, but haven't been able to find a better deal than this. I know the 2016 model is coming out in the next month or two, so part of me wonders if I should wait to see if the 2015 models are further discounted, but if the second dealer was telling the truth about this price being below invoice then maybe that won't happen?

I've also been looking at used Rogues on Craigslist and Autotrader, but the used ones seem really overpriced to me (actually, all the used cars I've looked at seem ridiculously overpriced).

I ended up in a lease for a 2015 Rogue SL Premium AWD with a few accessories and 18k miles per year for 433/month with $2650 down. For a lease i feel that is stupid high even though I had $1691 negative equity from my 2012 Rogue that I gave back early...

It was a dealer I know and trust(ed), and have a history with, but somehow it just doesnt sit right with me... I could have had ANY vehicle I wanted for what Im paying monthly right now just to give this thing back in 3 years.

I made a huge mistake and dont even like this vehicle enough to justify the payment. I was impulsive and should have actually held on to my 2012 (which I was paying $307/month for) longer.

Most of that doesnt have anything to do with your situation... But that just goes to show you cannot trust anyone when it comes to money. ESPECIALLY car dealers.

I also said that to say this... Because of the situation I put myself in, Im now looking for a used vehicle to finance for 6 years and to bury my current $5k negative equity into to lower my payments... Since Ive been looking, for some reason i think this time of year isnt that good for used vehicles. I only say that because it seems like some months ago it was better.
