I have a black top s13 sr20det and recently upgrade the turbo to a gt2871r w/ .64AR, at the lowest setting I'm running 16psi to 17psi, with bone stock internals, presently my mods are:

Greddy v-spec intercoolerGreddy oil coolerZ32 maf Custom intake w/ apexi cone filterHks ss BOVKoyo radiator w/ flex-a-lite fans and Samco hosesTomei rocker arm stoppersNismo 555cc injectorsWarblo 255lph fuel pumpHks grounding kitArc oil panApexi power FC L-jetro A/F is 11.3

The question is will I kill the motor without upgrade the head stud and head gasket.

Head gasket is always good insurance but not always necessary. If you plan on removing the head for any reason, you might as well replace the head gasket and studs... As regards what thickness, I have no idea. I am (was) still using my stock headgasket.

i was running a gt2871r .86 on a stock head gasket and studs @ 17.5 psi for a while. I even went to 20 psi a few times.

the turbo is good for 23ish.

You *can* run over 20psi on the stock HG but, it's not recommended. Most people seem to run an aftermarket HG over 17psi. To get the most out of your turbo you'll want cams, which is the perfect time to replace your HG and get some ARP head studs for good measure. Oh, and please don't get a super thick HG thinking you need to lower the compression. 1.1 to 1.3mm is fine. I have an apex'i 1.1mm, fyi.

BTW, what kind of dyno did you use? That torque number seems a bit on the high side for your hp level.

Your car will stall. Nothing major but if you have no tools to reconnect the piping you'll need a tow...

deamn... 290 on 17psi.

My friend is making 316 on 1 bar with the gt2871r, 555cc injectors, and a tune. Everything else is just the manditory crap that youd run.
