I'm having strange issues with my ipod in my new G. When I start up in the morning with the radio on and back down my driveway, the radio goes off and switches over to the main ipod screen. Very weird, and doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to drive me nuts. It also appears that the ipod is not being charged by the car since it has gone dead twice in the last week.

Has anyone else experienced this? I have a fairly current ipod - video model with 30gb, so I would think it should be current enough based on the specs I see in the owner's manual.

Well, I've noticed that if the I-pod is connected, once it turns itself on the radio will always default to the I-Pod. This is true even if you just started the car and turned on the radio as you stated. It doesn't make sense to me either but that's what it does.

As for the charging part, the car should be charging the I-pod. Check and make sure the I-pod is plugged in tight...but the car should be charging the I-pod without a doubt.

Quick tip - I also have the 30g and it's a royal pain scrolling through 300 artist's to find what you're looking for. I changed the genre on all of my music to match the first letter of the artist name. Example: I now search by genre and all the artist's starting with the letter A are located under the genre titled A. Now instead of scrolling through 300 artists I only have to scroll through 26 letters. This really made life easy.

Hmmm...that is strange. It seems to happen to me mostly on the first startup of the day. Maybe it's somehow thinking it has to boot up when first turned on, and the radio is flipping over to that mode. You would think the radio source selection would tell the ipod to turn on and off vs. the device (ipod) telling the radio which source. If this is the way it was designed to work, then i'm really disappointed. I guess it's no more moronic than the push button start design that doesn't allow you to power down the engine and continue to listen to the radio without first hitting the button again to engage ACC to repower the radio.

Thanks for the hint on the genre...that should save a lot of time searching thru hundreds of artists!
