Oh it's definately worth it for two main reasons.08G37S wrote: I don't know if the iPod is worth the money. You don't get that much more functionality.
This is where it becomes necessary to have a couple of playlists assembled.carman63 wrote:I have an 80gb Classic, it works well with the Interface. Also provides power, near as I can tell.
Only thing I don't like with the implementation of the iPod interface is, scrolling to find a song/artist can take a LONG time if you have lots of songs/artists.
As I said above, if you have a ton of music then the iPod is definitely your best bet. If you will never have 9GB of music anyway, then it is probably not worth the money to get the iPod. I can't maneuver around my iPod songs any better than I can on the Music Box. You don't have full search on the iPod, just the ability to sort by song, artist, genre, album, etc. which is basically what you can do with the Music Box. As far as sound quality goes, I can't tell the difference between the songs ripped on the Music Box and the songs on my iPod. I can't even tell the difference between the original CD and the song once it has been ripped onto the Music Box. If you are that much of an audiophile, you aren't going to be happy with mp3s at all anyway.RedG37SNC wrote:

1. 9Gb vs 80Gb, easy math2. Full search while driving
There's also ease of loading songs, I transfered my entire collection 50Gb in less time then it took to load 8 CDs. There's also sound quality, I'm not sure what the sample rate MB uses but I bet it's 128Kbp. Many of my MP3's are 160 or greater. The IPOD interace is easily the best option. Granted there are some things they could have done to make it awesome like video but really how often do you watch video's while driving...lol. Still it would have been nice to have for passengers.. but you know the driver would look as well.MB does have one very cool feature and that's auto classification of mood when you rip using the service provided. Kind of nice to select relaxing or lively music and it will play from your entire colection based on the songs classification. I take it that service requires a XM service.. not sure. Although since the car supports IPOD playlists you can create the same feature on the IPOD interface.

Have you tried searching for artist, album ect. while the car is moving with Music box? You can't, its disabled as a safety feature. This is why it's virtually unusalbe for me. By fiull search I mean't artist, album ect... and you can do this while the car is moving with the IPOD... that's a major difference.08G37S wrote: You don't have full search on the iPod, just the ability to sort by song, artist, genre, album, etc. which is basically what you can do with the Music Box.
You can browse artists, albums, etc on the Music Box while moving by simply turning the folder knob. That's all you can do on the iPod as well. You can't actually type in names of artists or albums.RedG37SNC wrote:

If your's is working while your moving then perhaps it's a difference in the software, newer G's will have the search on music box disabled.. You can only search by mood.
The math is very easy for me - I will never spend enough time sitting in my car to worry if I will listen to 9Gb of music, much less 80Gb - especially when I also have so many XM channels to listen to.RedG37SNC wrote:

Yes, there is an adapter from Apple that has RCA composite outputs which you can connect to the auxiliary inputs in the armrest to show video from the iPod. You can only see the video when the car is in Park with the parking brake engaged, though.
Sad to see a fellow G37S owner spewing such vitriolic text.avanti5010 wrote:Have to disagree with you on this. All iPods may have to be reset at one time or another - and it isn't due to cold temperatures. And if you had read instructions you would have known how to reset it. Don't blame Apple for your stupidity. And if you think Apple is so bad, why did you buy their product? DOH?
Note that when you switch away from the ipod the system pauses it. So to watch video from the ipod you have to disconnect it from the dock connector, then pick the video you want to watch, switch to the aux input, connect up a video/audio cable, then play and control the video from the ipod itself.08G37S wrote:Yes, there is an adapter from Apple that has RCA composite outputs which you can connect to the auxiliary inputs in the armrest to show video from the iPod.
