iPod interface in Canada?

Hi folks,

I just bought a 2008 Versa SL Hatchback with tech package. Now hopefully it will actually show up some day :-)

I see that in the US Nissan offers a dealer installed iPod interface. However, it does not appear to be available in Canada and my dealer and Nissan Canada don't seem to know if the US product will be compatible with the Canadian audio setup.

I can't imagine why it would not be ... but I'm certainly no expert.

Has anybody actually installed this interface in a Canadian Versa?

Thanks

Hi, the ipod adapter from the dealer costs about USD270. IMO, i think that is too much to pay. I installed a new ipod-ready stereo a couple of days ago. See this thread:

If you have the tech. package you don't need an iPod interface. All you need is an 1/8 jack male to male audio cable and use the AUX jack right on the front of your stereo with head phones output from your iPod. The cable is like 6 bucks...

Thanks for the reply but I want the iPod interface so that I can:

a) Control the iPod from the steering wheel mounted radio controlsb) See the song and menu info on the radio display (small as it is)c) Keep the iPod charged on long trips ... I have other uses for the power jack :-)d) Keep cable clutter down.

Ya that radio looks cool but like EV, I got the tech package primarily for the Blue Tooth interface with my cell phone and am not willing to risk that by installing an after market deck.

If I was going after market I would not have bothered with the over priced tech package :-)

I also prefer the anonymity of factory decks. Don't have to worry (as much) about theft, removing face plates that kind of thing.

Well ya, I did see that artifcle and that is the iPod interface I am talking about. However, as I said in my original post, what I'm trying to find out for sure is if this kit will work in Canadian Versa's.

Personally I would expect it to, however, nobody at Nissan Canada seems to know anything about this and my dealer here in Canada even claimed that it was "likely" there are differences between the Canadian and American audio set ups.

I dont see why the setups would be any different. now if it was a Tiida vs Versa issue that might affect it, but I dont see why our neighbors to the north would have any issue.
