I own a 2008 Infinity M35X and have had repeated problems with the IPod Interface cable ruining the IPod port connection. This has happended several times. I replaced the Interface cable with a new one provided by Infinity and still have damaged an Ipod. I am absolutely certaint that I am connecting the Ipod correctly. Help!

Several iPOD models have been damaged, including a Classic, several Nanos (including the 2nd & 5th generations) and even an early generation model. The damage is to the prongs contained in the iPOD port in every case. Thanks for trying to help, this is getting expensive.

Thanks for the info. The cable only fits properly in one direction. The cable can be inserted into the iPOD port upside down with a little difficulty - it will just feel like a tight fit. If it is inserted upside down into the iPOD port it will damage the pins inside the port. I think this is a design flaw in Infiniti's cable as I cannot do the same thing with the Apple supplied USB cable. With the iPOD screen side up, you should insert the cable with the symbol on the connector facing UP. Also be careful as the cable has release clamps on the side. The buttons must be fully depressed to disengage the cable from the iPOD. Apple also does not use this functionality and I think it defeats the safety measure of the cable being able to be disloged if it is tugged too hard or twisted. One other bit of info. Some people have reported damage to their iPOD if they connect the iPOD to the cable while the sound system is active and set to SAT mode. You should always have the sound system turned off before connecting or disconnecting the iPOD.

I have used mine for quite a while and have regularly connected an iPOD Classic, a Nano and a first generation Touch with no problems, but you do need to be careful.

Hope this helps.

thanks much!! I actually got Apple to replace 2 of the damange iPODs so now I'll be careful to avoid "user error".
