I posted this in the EX35 forum but didn't get much help. My EX35 comes with an iPod cable that plugs into a proprietary socket in the center console. On the other end I presume an iPod plugs into it.

What I'm wondering is if there is any other cables out there that work with other players besides iPod? I have a Zune, not an iPod and I need a cable that works with that. For the life of me I dunno why they didn't just provide a USB port.

Unfortunately Apple owns the market. I haven't been able to find anything good for Zune interfaces at all. Maybe someone here knows something else. You might be able to hack up that cable to use it for a line in and charging but your not going to be able to get control through it.

well, if they owned the market I wouldn't own a Zune. Ford's SYNC system is a glaring example that you can support other DMPs besides iPod and do it well. I'm an idiot for assuming that everyone used a USB port for DMPs. But as it is this is just an adapter cable that plugs into a proprietary port in the EX. It would lead one to believe that other adapter cables could be made.

This system badly needs a support update.

When a company has more than 70% of the market I'd say they own it. I don't think that they are the best solution out there, however I do own several mostly because of third party product support such as this example. Why would a company invest even more money into developing a solution that works with with everything when you can just work with one company and have a solution that works for more than 70% of customers? Right or wrong it saves them money and that's what it is all about these days after all.

the saving money thing doesn't really hold water with me since SYNC, which works with nearly everything, is a $330 option and I spent over $1500 for my option that only works with one DMP.

I guess I'll just stick to the lowest common denominator at this point which looks like compact flash cards.

As much as I like my G37, this is a weak spot - give us something interoperable and nonproprietary.

Also, my Ipod cable only lasted about 3 months. At the Ipod end, it is not robust to the repeated movement when connecting and disconnecting the Ipod; it is fairly poorly made in my opinion. Did get it replaced on warranty but still a pain in the butt.
