Anyone installed a car adapter of some sort in the Q other than the FM Modulated type?

What are my options? Does anyone make anything for the Q45 yet? I dont have to use an IPOD, I just want a way to play all my audio clips in my car.

Thanks,Nick

If you have casette player you could use cassete adapter. It sounds better then FM modulator. I have a monster Icruze interface in my Q. Sounds good. The Icruze has some limatations. You could only play max. of 9 playlists and there a limit of 99 songs for each playlist. It's fine for my Nano, but I cant listen to all my playlists on my 60gb Ipod. There is a hack to the Icruze that lets you have complete use of the ipod and you could access all your playlist , but you can not control it from you headunit. USA SPEC and PAC makes an interface for the 2nd and 3rd gen. Q.

I replaced stock BOSE with a Pioneer headunit with the iPod interface. Works very nicely... I control iPod right through the headunit. Sound is as good as it can get out of an MP3 or other compressed format.

I use a cassette adaptor for my Sirius receiver and think it sounds almost as good as a CD and 100 times better than F/M modulated. And its only $20 !!

Nick, qsiguy is making an adapter that will allow you to connect and Ipod to the OEM HU. Read this post. The whole post. zerothread/194403 It should also power the Ipod. The only think is that you cant control the Ipod from the HU. I'm waiting for him to make one so I can get one.

Depends on what year Q you are talking about. My adapters are for the older ones. Not really sure what other vehicles they will work on. Here's the units w/prices I posted on the other thread.

8 pin DIN adapter w/RCA input + activation button $20 + shipping

8 pin DIN adapter w/iPod harness + activation button + iPod charging capability $65 + shipping

iPod -> RCA w/power + ground adapter $50 + shipping (you could use this with the $20 adapter if you didn't want to be limited to iPod only for your input, or if you want to make your own 8 pin DIN adapter)

You can alsomake your own from the instructions on the other thread if you prefer.

Oh, I didn't know you were driving an 02. Yea, I checked Cruchfield and they dont have one. The USA Spec addapter only goes to 01. So I dont know which one you can use.

Thanks for all the ideas, not sure what to do yet. I have an 02 so not many plug and play options. Not gonna replace my factory HU cause it is too nice.

Might try the cassete adapter, I really would like a wiring harness of some type but Im sure that would take major modification. I was hoping a larger company had already come up with one. I noticed that other cars out there had a straight connection to the HU.

If anyone had any more info that would be sweet.

Thanks,Nick

Unfortunately, it seems manufacturers skipped over your year model. have you looked at the back of the radio to see what plugs it had? Might be something we can integrate in to.

If you are limited to cass adapter or FM mod. I'd go with the FM modulator. They have wireless or hard wired. Tie that into a 3.5mm plug and plug that into your mp3 player. You can hide that wire and won't have wires drapped across your console.

There are a bunch of these universal IPOD car adapter kits on ebay....

I emailed the sellers and they say that it will not work on my car. I dont see why it cant. Is there some special connection that the CD changer utilizes? If I can ditch the CD changer for an IPOD hook up then I would do that....

Here is one:http://cgi.ebay.com/Peripheral...wItem

Seems like it should just plug into where the CD changer plugs into? Any thoughts?

qsiguy, no I have not had a chance to rip apart my dash...will someday soon. It seems like I could rig it up if I just knew what wire did what. I have the FSM downloaded but it is not much help. Just shows wiring diagrams and not the type of plug used. The CD changer should just have an audio out? Correct? Could this be used for the IPOD?

sorry, cant live with FM modulated or cassette...need a straight audio connection through a wire....somehow

Did you read all the other posts? I've been making a DIN adapter that plugs into the back of the G50 radio and has a push button to activate the built in Aux 2 input on the OEM Bose. Those other adapters aren't designed for the G50 and I wasn't willing to fork over the cash to experiment when there is a much easier and cheaper way to do it and you can keep the CD changer. There is a bunch of other details on the CD input but it's not as simple as just a audio input on the CD input. I have tried that and it didn't work. You need some other circuits to make it work. Above someone put a link to the other thread that's got all the details, about 3-4 pages worth.

I have iPod harness that work great when integrated into the DIN adapter and with the addition of an accessory power source it will charge/power the iPod.

Here are the parts I have available.8 pin DIN adapter w/RCA input + activation button $20 + shipping

I have an F50.

2002 Q45 with Nav. Still looking for a straight connection. I did end up getting an iPod, wife got me one for Christmas. I read that some companies offer a ip-bus type connector and you just use the cd changer controls? Anyone else used this option? Can you control the iPod with the factory buttons?

I dont mind losing my CD changer if I can substitue in the ipod.

Ok, why wont this work....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1

And then use an av ipod cable

http://cgi.ebay.com/AV-Cable-f...wItem

and then somehow connect the av out into the factory headunit/lcd

Any thoughts?

I use this and it does sound good, but I hate that thing hanging across my console.

Got any picks of how this looks installed? I have a 94 and I'm guessing it's just a matter of pulling the radio out and plugging it in?

Same here. MY cassette player in my Blaupunkt Head Unit doesn't work and my FM Modulator for my iPod doesn't fit in the cigarette lighter properly. It keeps popping out. I have a 92 Q45. Any tips on getting it to stay in? (I hate listening to the radio, commercials and the same damn songs over and over.)

You can buy an add-on female 12v socket and hide it behind the dash. Best Buy I think has them. Audiovox makes one for their XM tuner.

What Jesda said, just find a socket that will fit and wire it behind the dash (or under it if that floats your boat). I've also wired directly to the cig. plug and hard wired it up if you want a permanent install. On a few I've just soldered wires to the cig plug from the XM unit. You can just never use it in a lighter socket again.

Check the old threads for install details, there isn't anything you can see if you don't want to. Depends on where you want to run your wires and install the push button activation switch. I'm still planning on wiring my activation wire into the old cell phone controls on my steering wheel as they aren't used any more. I just havent' gotten around to it. Haven't been driving the Q much lately as I am in need of some suspension work, shocks, tension rods, bushings, and when I do that I can get my Cali Customs installed
