It depends on whether you have an S trim or SL trim. If you have the S trim, you have to use an FM transmitter, and if you have the SL trim, you can simply use an 1/8th inch plug.

Not really. They use completely different stereos, and one of the key selling points of the SL is the MP3 changer with front ipod jack.

Now... the original poster is canadian. Is it the same that the SL has the jack and the S is not, or does neither have the jack?

I have the S and really regretting not getting the SL

I'm not sure about the SL but the S definitely doesn't have it. I got a FM transmitter yesterday with a caddy for the ipod. The 12V outlet is between the passenger seat and my hand brake and the transmitter doesn't fit...there's not enough room.

I'm going to see if they have other type of transmitter that's that too bulky.

Not sure if the Canadian SL's without the tech package have the audio jack or not but if you get the tech package then you get the 6cd changer, subwoofer and audio jack plus the speakers are upgraded to clarion. I've never understood why there is a difference between the Canadian and US versions of the car. Canadian SL's come standard with ABS but don't get the plague ridden TPMS. Plus we cant get iKey. Do US SL's come standard with the upgraded stereo?

I posted something earlier about iPod integration. Although I like the fact that my car stereo in my SL has that feature where you can plug your iPod into the AUX jack, I wish Nissan would have thought this through a little better. It would have been nice if there was an AUX in the back (internally) and front (externally) of the stereo. Or better yet, I wish the stereo was like the Alpine iPod car stereos where you can plug your iPod in your glove compartment and that you can run through playlists, etc. from the face of the stereo.

I installed a Harmon Kardon Drive + Play device to solve this problem. What this device does is it hooks up to your iPod through your glove compartment box. You then have a small round dial thing that you use to control your iTunes playlists, etc. just like how you would control your iPod on its own. There is a screen that is mounted also so you can the playlists, genres, artists, songs, etc. on your iPod. The only problem that I see though is that the installer had to run the cable from the front (because the SL stereos don't have internal AUX jacks) and then run the wire into the back somehow. Since my installation I'm planning to take it back to the installers because only my right stereo speakers work when I use my iPod with this device. The guys at Best Buy are crappy and they do a rush job so I'm talking to the manager this week. I face plate doesn't flush securely therefore they had to run the wires between the face plate and the dash leaving a gap. What a crappy job. I uploaded a photo to show you what this looks like installed so look at earlier post for this and it'll show you. This device DOES work though and I'm determined to get it to work with a better installation and to get all my speakers including the subwoofer to work while its in AUX mode.

If you do decided to go this route and you have the Versa S stereo, then you would have to get some added part that, I think, converts one of your FM stations to your iPod connection. Search Amazon.com and read the reviews of this Harmon Kardon Drive + Play. That might help.

Wish you had gotten the SL. I almost bought the S BUT felt that the SL was far and beyond what the S had PLUS I also felt that I needed a car that felt like I was driving a midsize car with all the uploaded features insdie. Have a Happy New Year.

If you're to the point where you regret the S, change out the HU for one that does IPod integration. There are tons of HU's out there that do it and you don't have t spend a lot of money. It would be significantly cheaper than paying the extra $$ for the SL.

It's amazing how car stereo is always the last thing that's up to date in the automobile industry. They can never seem to catch up.

An mp3 jack (1/8 inch line in) should be a non issue and standard on every head unit within the last couple years.

I remember in the mid to late 90's when cars were still advertised with an "AM/FM/cassette." No one was using cassettes. You couldn't even buy them anywhere anymore. Yet the factory cars kept including cassettes and the CD was optional.

I hear ya there. My 02 Ram originally came with a AM/FM cassette radio. I don't even know where I can purchase one.

So you don't need to get an SL with the Technology package in Canada to get the Aux In? All the SL come with it standard? Could someone confirm?

This is WRONG. In canada, only the Technology Package has the aux jack. The base S and SL models do NOT have it.
