I want to put an Ipod interface in my Gcoupe, but I'm kinda hesitant...I saw one over on everythingg35.com... http://www.g35parts.com/9083/o...d=521 but it says it uses the factory radio controls and whatnot. Does anyone have this same exact interface and if they do does the sound quality remain the same (sorta like 192kbps quality)? I have an FM transmitter right now from belkin and it gets so "staticy" that I'm about ready to put it under my rear tire and run over it not once, not twice, but three times.... I saw other posts here about this other one that the entire dash was stripped out...whereas this other guy who did his install took apart the back seat...and did the wiring from that end...I'm confused and just not really sure what to do...

I have an 04 Coupe and installed an Ipod, but I also replaced the stereo at the same time. It did require taking the dash apart, but it may be different depending on model and year of the car - i'm not sure.

The sound quality is perfectly digital. You'll kick yourself for not trashing the FM transmitter sooner. Terrestrial AM radio is better than that POS transmitter.

I think that item from EverythingG35 will work well for you! FM transmitters are total trash...

As for the wiring, it will need to be done from the dash...the guy that did the back seat probably used the input from a CD Changer, which for the G35, is in the head deck.

The one you see on EverythingG35 is the factory kit from Japan. It uses the satellite radio input, which for most people, goes unused. The guy installed the control unit in the back seat and doesn't require taking the dash apart because the iPod unit plugs into the prewired satellite radio connection that is prewired in the trunk. Any and all direct connections like this are always superior to any other type of connection you can make.

I have the same one....installing it i couldnt tell you if it was easy or not cuz one of my friends did this. But it looked simple to him. just took couple of plastics from the harness and plug and play.... sound is great but same songs of radio sound little better. Bass is lil louder.... But maybe I just have to set up my EQ in my IPOD

Stupid question.. is there any quick way to determine if my car is pre-wired for SAT?

All are. The only trouble you run into is if you want to run SAT and the adapter for the IPOD connectivity. Can't do both at the same time.

All 06s are, which is what you have. The only ones that weren't were some 03s. If you go to everythingg35.com they list the VIN ranges of ones that weren't pre-wired under the satellite radio product descriptions.

So, between the two adapter options listed in this thread, what's the general consensus on the superior product?

I'm not sure if one is necessarily superior to the other one. To me it looks like the USA Spec one plugs into the rear of the head unit while the factory one from everythingg35.com plugs in in the trunk. So I guess it just depends on how you want to install it and how much work you want to do.

as long as it's 04 and above, yes you can use the trunk one.

Can someone explain where the sat connection is in the trunk? Or a few steps on how to install this?

Thanks, Ross

If you pull up the carpeting in the trunk, it'll be on the left. There should be a wire harness that isn't being used if you don't have sat radio.

I installed one in my 03 coupe using the sat button/connection on the back of the bose stereo. The installation is pretty involved - because you have to remove the radio/ac unit/ transmission cover - drop down glove box etc. Other than that the install was plug and play.

I actually had to do this about 4 times for various reasons - so I'm pretty experienced. I would say allow yourself 2-3 hours for the install - (it is not hard - just a bit tedious). Remember to lower ur windows before you disconnect the battery - also if you disconnect the air bag (while dropping the glove box) be sure to reconnect the airbag before u reconect the battery or you will have to have the air bag light reset.

The adapter I used charges the ipod - and delivers sound through the factory bose - the controls remain with the ipod. The one I used was from a complany called integration solutions (i believe).

Good Luck

if you havent gone thru with this, i just created a new thread integrating my ipod to the bose headunit. ( http://forums.g35club.org/zerothread/388097 )the one youre looking at is the best one since it charges the ipod and uses the steering wheel controls too. i just went with the cheapest one and i dunno about sound quality but i can tell you it is way better than using a fm transmitter or a tape adapter. the one i went with, you'd have to take the dash apart to get to the back of the headunit but it took me less than an hour to finish it. i posted a link to a diy in my thread that helped me a lot.

i have the usa spec... i did the install myself... i just followed the instructions on this link... installation is the same for the pac-nis and usa spec... sound is digital and is 100 times better... i also had to buy the scosche adapter ($30) because the 4g nano and the iphone 3g will not charge on this cable... all other ipods and nanos will... usa spec came out with a cable that charges all ipods ($20)... good luck... http://g35ipod.com/installHW.php?skin=1

Indeed.. I desire to shoot all FM transmitters.... though I wonder, will that unit work with the iPhone??
