I just bought a 2003 m45. I really want to have my ipod work in the car without buying the cheap tape adapter. I have found a couple Ipod hookups. Some claim they are an interface that alows you to control the ipod through the screen/system. While others sound much more simplistic. What ipod hookup do you have in your M45?

Cheap tape player....that is the only one for me that works 100% of the time. The others look better but are really expensive for poo results.

Hope that helps! Kyle

I have a 2006 M45, so I'm not sure if the '03 has the same thing, but the '06 has aux inputs in the back. But the tape adapter should net you 95% of the fidelity of an aux input. The sound through the aux is great, but there is an engine whine audible at all times (pitch rises with rpm), slightly worse with the aux input.

An ipod will never sound as good as a CD. Even if it's wired straight to your brain.

That being said, I don't get any kind of whine using my ipod through the tape adaptor. Set the ipod volume at 50% with the EQ set at 'treble boost' and it sounds pretty good.

I disagree, it can sound just as good, if you use lossless compression. And I would be suprised if you could consistently tell the difference between the original CD and 128 kbps VBR AAC encoding 3 out of 4 times in blind listening tests. I know 99.9% of the population can't.

I cant tell the difference between tape and CD, but I can tell the difference between tape and am/fm converter. I agree with having the ipod at 50%...maybe a tad more volume wise. Anymore than that and the sound quality goes to crap. It is nice because you can control more bass/ treble with the ipod as well.

Hope this helps! Kyle

I have a Creative Zen M and use a DLO FM transmitter with it in my '07 M35X. Cost me $70 and it works fine. Sound quality is as good as playing the Zen through the headphones. Volume may be a tad low but, nowhere as bad as what some people are reporting. I might have to kick up the car volume control 2-3 notches.

I tried one of the cassette tape converters but the sound was tinny. The FM transmitter sounds very good. Only get interference in some rare situations where I get in an area where there's a radio station broadcasting on the freq I use. I picked a freq that is far enough away from any of the stations in my normal driving area.

Only things I don't like about it is that 1) it uses the only PTO available (in the console box so I have to choose between my phone and the Zen sometimes and, 2) I can't control the Zen with the car stereo controls. Other than that, I'm pleased with the results.

I use iTrip for my hookup. I set the station to 87.7 and play my iPod. At times you may need to change station but it just takes a minute to do that. Sound quality isnt as good as a CD but it works for me. No wires. Even a back seat rider can control it.

I just use the tape deck. The 03/m45 has a really quiet tape deck and there is no whine. I would probably make sure I get a decent cassette adapter because the cheapest ones tend to start making noises after a few months.

Has anyone tried this???

http://www.crutchfield.com/App...p=120

Only downside is that from the sounds of things you cannot use this in conjunction with your CD Changer as it uses that input. Honestly I don't know that I would ever touch my changer if my IPOD was in the car.

Could be a good fix if someone's changer took a dump and they don't want to pay to have it fixed. If anyone uses or has tried, please let me know...................
