I just bought my wife a used 2006 M35x. It has the journey package. I'd like to add an iPod interface (or an aux jack at a minimum), but have concerns about voiding the warranty. Is it worth paying the extra $$$ to have a dealer install or should I just take my chances and go elsewhere? We're also thinking of installing headrest DVD players, but I have the same concerns.

And recommendations on an iPod interface and/or the DVD players would be appreciated.

I have an '06 M35 and plug my iPod into the audio jacks in the back with a special cable I purchased from the Apple store. Then, I switch the audio source to "aux" and it works. The only thing is that you have to control the iPod from the iPod itself.

In my car (which has the 14 speaker bose system) at the back of the center arm rest, right by the rear seat ash tray, there is a little pannel that opens to reveal RCA input jacks and a video input jack. I bought a cable which goes from the headphone jack of my ipod to the RCA inputs.

If you press the Disc button on the dash (you might have to press it twice) the screen wil change and show a button which reads Aux/Settings. Click that and the RCA jacks become active. The sound from your ipod will go through the car stereo. It also makes AUX one of the Sources available when you press the Source button on the steering wheel.

As the previous poster said however, you still have to control the ipod from the ipod itself. But I just put the ipod in my cup holder and it stays put.

Does infiniti even offer ipod integration for '06 M's? I dont think its available...

i just read a post last week about someone buying an adapter from Infiniti that let us use our controls w/ the Ipod. Sorry I don't have time right now to look more into it...

Good call. Here it is:

zer...-m35x

No one but the original poster has commented on it. And its a DIY project.

ggoddard how much of your warranty is left? Unless you bought an extended warranty, you must have < 10 months left anyway.

Thanks...I saw the rear ash tray, but didn't see the rear audio input controls (I'll look again). I figured that my car didn't have it because I don't have tech package.

As for the warranty, yes, it only has 6 months left on the factory, but it's certified pre-owned...which extends it another 2 years. And it's basically the same warranty with a few exceptions (deductible, etc.).
