I have been meaning to post this for some time.

I have my iPhone connected to the car via the rear aux RCA inputs for playing music and Bluetooth for phone calls. As far as poswering the unit it is also plugged into the USB/cig adapter in the rear seat.

I have feedback when playing music and feedback when in a conversation but it goes away when I do not have the phone plugged into the cig/power source. Any ideas on how to get around this? Is there a line filter I can buy or have someone locally hardwire the unit?

Thanks!

Don't know if the adapter will clear up the noise. I would try running shielded signal cables from the phone to the jacks.

I get the same when charging and playing music at the same time through the aux cable.
You can google "ground loop car whine" for more info. I don't charge the phone when playing music any more.

That's my point. Assuming it is not a phone issue (do you hear feedback from the phone when charging and playing music through the phone speakers?).
If the feedback is present only when playing though car audio, use shielded signal lines from the phone to the jacks and a separate charge line.

It only happens when charging thru the cigarette lighter in back seat (haven't tried the front seat one). So it's not the RCA's. I will let you know what happens when I get this piece in. I will try both USB and standard 2-prong plug.

i don't use an iphone for that but I did buy the OEM Apple cables from the Apple store to have my GF's ipad plugged in to watch movies in the rear monitor of my car. Not sure if the OEMs will be a difference or not but they sound pretty good with the iPad that i notice

EDIT - Also not sure which iphone you have but i dont know if they have it for the new iphone 5 and up but the old ones with the old plug to RCA

Yea, I have all OEM Apple lines as well. This all started with the iPhone 4 I had for a while. Just upgraded to the 5s with the same results. The sound is actually not that bad but the calls are really bad.

You get feedback during phone calls? Do you mean you can hear yourself while talking? I had that happen to me a while ago when the audio jack was plugged into the system. For some strange reason the Bluetooth didn't turn off the audio and I was speaking through the iPhone and the audio was through the car. I believe the fix was to tap the output options on the iPhone so it was on My Car not iPhone. The feedback while flaying music and charging is like dean said it's your phone connected to ground causing ground loop. I experience it using a cheap charger but have upgraded to an apple dual USB port charger with the variable amperages and don't hear it anymore.

Good info thanks. THe feedback (hearing yourself) is actually on the other end. Whomever I am talking to has the problem. Received the part today and will do some testing. Audio I have noticed is better but actually may be due to the new iphone 5s 5pin connector.

Try entering the diagnostics menu

While the car is ON
Turn off the radio
press and hold the Settings button and rotate the tuning knob clockwise until you enter the diagnostics menu. Keep rotating to open more options. Then release. I can't remember the exact location but there is an option to adjust the microphone. Lower it down a bit so it's not as sensitive.

Great suggestion. I'd heard about the Diag menu but didn't know about the microphone adjustment being an option. Will give it a try also!

Correction to my earlier statement. Holding the setting button down while rotating the volume button is what gets you into the diag menu. Sorry for the confusion.

I have one made by Peak. It has 2 places for plugs and 2 USB's. It has a fan that is noisier than I would like but it's not awful.
