Curious if anyone has the iPhone 4 or any previous iPhone or iPod Touch with iOs 4 on it and whether you have any issues with the Nissan iPod integration running the iPod?

I'm probably upgrading from my 1G iPod Touch to the 4G iPod touch, so I want to know if I'll see any probs....

Not exactly "no" known issues....

I have a 2011 Versa with the GPS/Bluetooth setup and it does work with the iPhone. (I have an iPhone 3GS.) It's a bit confusing; when you connect it via USB at first, the phone will complain that it is not compatible with that accessory. You have to select "iPod" from the iPhone screen, then connect it, and then the car can play/control music from the phone.

The Bluetooth integration works great for phone calls. The Nissan's Bluetooth integration does NOT support streaming music from the phone to the stereo over BT. I was disappointed by that; I didn't realize that when I bought it. We had rented a Ford Focus a few weeks prior and the Ford Sync did support that.

I usually keep the iPhone in my pocket and just use the car stereo for making phone calls over BT. I rarely connect it via USB and use it to play music. I keep my iPod classic in the car and connected all the time, and use that for music playback.

The car or phone seem to get confused when you connect the phone via USB & BT at the same time. Plays music fine, but then when the phone rings, you can't answer it with the car.

Personally for me the 4.1 update sound quality over bluetooth has dropped over 4.0.1....

FYI - got my 4th gen iPod Touch for Xmas and the Nissan iPod Cable works just fine. Not using bluetooth or anything, just straight built in iPod cable to factory HU. Controls it perfectly.

We purchased a 2011 Version 1.8 SL with the Interface System for iPod®. We have a 2nd Gen iTouch and are having nothing but problems with the interface. Sometimes it connects, and sometimes it doesn't. It is really frustrating because we have to unplug it and then plug it back in to get it to work.

We've taken it into the dealer 3 times, and still it has not be resolved. So if you haven't already purchased the 4th Gen ... you might want to think twice before doing so. Personally, I think if Nissan is going to sell something with an Interface System for iPod®, it should work no matter what generation your device is.

I already did, and it works OK, but I know what issues you are talking about....

It's not Nissan's fault for any of the issues you are having - it's Apple's. When they update the firmware - it can mess with the way other devices talk to it. As an example, my 4G touch won't even work with a Specktone home speaker system dock we have.

For the Touch - I have found that sometimes it isn't recognized on the first try, but often the second time works. This happens especially after I have done a sync to the PC and the iPod piece of the device hasn't been running. I have also found that if you start playing a song, and then pause, and THEN plug it in - it's seen first time, every time. If I shut the car off, leaving the iPod in the car and then get back in again - it fires up right away because the iPod music playing software piece of the OS has just been running. Same thing if I even remove it, use it for other stuff, and then put it back. As long as the iPod piece that plays audio is active - the Nissan interface finds it right away - the Nissan interface is looking for the actual iPod music playing software service to be running on the device right away, and when it's not, it throws it for a loop.

The reason I think this also - is that my wife has an iPod Classic - which does nothing but play music. It gets seen every time without fail.

Hope that helps explain it. Nothing Nissan does is going to help. The Nissan interface is relatively simple about what it wants. It wants to see an iPod that plays music, and if that piece isn't running, it ditches out. By the way - this is partially Apple's fault - because when an accessory is plugged in that is supposed to access the music player - the OS should fire it up, but it often doesn't.
