Well Ive been around for a while but never really introduced me and my car. I own an 89 single slammer that has been good but recently some problems have arrived.

When I first got it The dist. shaft snapped right where it connects to the bottom of the distributor. So I ended up replacing my timing chain, water pump thermostat and ended up doing an overall tune up as well. Then I got a gread deal on some agx's with megan springs. Since then I have bled the hydraulic lifters and put on a random header.

I was at the autocross in marina on sunday, Im not sure if any of you were there( I ran the car like this haha f*** it thug life!)

I have another thread going that hasnt been very helpful, I cant figure out what is causing the noise, in this thread I explain whats goin on so pls check it out.zer...05240

So heres some pictures of my car(sorry crappy phone pics)Heres one during the process of bleeding my hydraulic liftersOverall engine bay

And the video of the noise I cant figure out, It isnt the valves or related to timing chain it is coming from inside the block. The noise doesnt get any louder when I take off the valve cover cap while its running, and it goes faster with the rpm's. Compression is 170,150,175,185http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2wd691h&s=5

I apologize for the lack of response on the behalf of Nicoers.

I cannot say with any certainty what the root cause of your issue is. Since your compression on #2 is low and you seem to have narrowed it down to the exhaust valve that seems like it may cause a noise, but my initial guess would be that, that would cause more of a miss than a noise. A broken spring may cause a noise.

Use a stethoscope or a long screwdriver to around the engine to narrow down the source of the noise.

Finally! thanks alot man, But Im pretty sure I have figured it out. The noise seems to be coming directly from the combustion chamber of cyl. #2. I believe that the valve isnt closeing all the way and the piston must be hitting it. The head will be coming off this week to varify. Thanks again for the reply!

Yeah, pull the head and check it out. With it out it may be a good time to replace parts to ensure it lasts a long time. Make sure you have the head machined before reinstalling it as well, don't want to start blowing HG's due to it being outta spec after removal.

Yeah, I forgot to say I made my own leakdown tester, and the exhuast valve is most defanitly leaking when the piston is at TDC.

When I get the head machined does it have to be completly dissasembled?(valves rockers cam etc.)

Mmmmm Home made tools FTW. How'd you make yourself a leakdown tester? Any pics.

Something like carbon build up or a weak valve spring could be the culprit but the damage may be far reaching.

Well I took the hose with the spark plug whole threads and pressure realese off my commpression tester, took out the shrader valve it acted as a free flowing hose. Went down to Orchard got some pipe fittings to make other end clip onto an aircompresser hose. My step dad has an aircompressor with a built in air regulator. Overall price since I had already purchased the compression checker before, and had acces to an air compressor, was like 3$ at orchard for the fittings.

So I can screw in the hose at the spark plug whole, let in a desired psi(it only took like 45) of air and watch the gauge drop as the pressure is going is being release and listen at the engine where its coming from. I had the exhuast manifold off because that was my suspicion that the exhuast valve was bad.

Sure enough you can here the air escaping, and it was so much that you could actually feel the air blowing on your hand. I also put tape over the port nice and tight, let air into the cylinder and it pushes the tape off. You can do this if cant really hear it or feel it.
