So I'm kinda new here I had an account before but can't remember the password to it. My name is Cisco I am a friend of an older CA member Rico05, I was the one who gave him the white S-13 hatchback for those of you who remember. I bought the car motor and all from him a year or so ago (maybe more) it is sitting in a gray hatch just about ready to go.
Now for the problem, If the MAF senser is hooked up the car sputters and dies, unplug it the car fires right up and will idol fine.
I have the SOHC MAf in, and the ECU has been chipped for the SOHC MAF. After installing the motor and wiring harness I did find the wiring to the MAF was messed up (wires came out of butt connectors) and were making bad connection.
SO since then I have ordered an new harness from Wiring Specialties, and a remanufactured MAF both have not fixed my problem!!
So here I am need to help please :)

Did you reset the computer after doing the repair?

Yes sir I reset the ECU, ran it through diagnostics mode, and the only code I got was 55. So it should be good to go. I have the MAF wired up according to the directions here on Nico Ca black/green to Ka white wire Black to Black and Black/white to Black/white.
What gets me is on January 1st I hooked up the MAF right to the throttle body plumbed in the auxiliary air hoses got in the car and it started right up no issues of any kind!!! I did that to circulate the gas in the tank while I finished up building my front mount IC set up. I finished up the front mount had it all hooked up ready to go and that's when this problem started, that's when I found the MAF wires pulled out of the butt connectors. Since then I put the new harness in and the reman SOHC MAF in and it has not changed a thing!

Unfortunately, sounds like your remanufactured afm is fubered. Hopefully, I'm wrong and it's just your wiring.

How far is the MAFS away from the turbo inlet? Do you have a filter on the MAFS?

Fun Fact! Only 1 out of every 10 remanufactured units are checked for functionality before being shipped to distributors. This means you have a 90% possibility of having a bad unit. Huzzah!

Seriously though, I would try to find someone with a known working MAF and give it a shot. It's most likely your issue, sounds like the car richens up a ton once you have it in.

Boost_boy I would rather it be the 75$ afm than the 320$ wiring harness man.
Float it is 22in from the inlet, but even hooked up to the throttle body it does the same thing and I do have a filter on it.
How do I test the MAF to see if its good??

Not sure of the specific readings, but the voltage changes as flow increases to keep the wire hot. That is how the computer registers the change. Perhaps put a multimeter on the appropriate wire and blow through it to see if the voltage goes up.

Should be around .5V at idle
