Post

Hey everybody,

I just recently bought my first nissan....2009 Altima 2.5 S. Wife's family have been nissan die-hards, so I gave in, so to speak.

Anyway, this seems like a great place to learn. I have a background in engineering and a general understanding of how cars and their systems work. I can't wait to gain a deeper knowledge of how my car specifically works; hopefully I can contribute at least a little back to this community from which I'm sure I will learn more than my fair share.

Thanks,bige

Yep. Initially I plan to replace the grill, tint the windows all the way around, and drop the suspension with the Eibach pro kit. Possibly replace the head lights with some HID ones. Over the winter I'll probably invest in some new summer wheels/tires....

And then.....maybe put a turbo kit in it. I'm researching the numbers right now to see what's needed and how much I might be able to get away with before I would need to tear the engine apart and upgrade the internals - that's more work and money than I care to put in. I have no desire to race or anything like that - I just get sad when stomping on the throttle and nothing really happens.

Welcome. I hope you enjoy your Altima. It's been my favorite sedan since.. hmm, they restyled the '05 (I had a 2.5s on lease for a year, great fun).

After reading your last post above me, I am curious as to why you picked the 2.5 as opposed to the 3.5 (given the 2-3k difference at most)? The reason I ask is you will end up spending more in the long run on the turbo, and still be behind in performance compared to a stock 3.5... without some major engine work (which you say you don't want to mess with). Though yes the bragging rights and turbo whissstle sound are something to look forward to (shoot, I wouldn't mind it!) If you are looking for some grunt the 3.5 more than delivers. I think there are at least 2 turbo'd Coupes here that have the 2.5 or 3.5... I'm sure they can point you in the right direction when you are ready for it.

The 2.5 is no weeny though so enjoy the mpg and somewhat of a grunt it still possesses. It's definitely no grandma's Camry!

Oh, and please, and I know you're a smart guy, but no harm in a friendly word of caution.

Don't do this --> I'll eat you alive! With a little seasoning salt. Now let's see some tints and 18" sport wheels.

Sounds good, there was a thread about the guy whos coming out with the turbo for the a/c 2.5 but it seems to have drifted away. I can't find it anymore but as i remember the price for the basic turbo which was $3995 would get you 300 hp to the wheels, and the upgrade to precision parts would be a little bit more but you'd be looking at 400-600 to the wheels.

Ah Found it.

Quote »All fabbed parts will come with a lifetime warranty, against cracking.. ALL hot parts will be fabbed up from 304L stainless, to ensure a great look, and solid performance.

Our goal is 285-325whp, for our base kit, at stock boost pressure. The kit itself will have the potential to make anywhere from 400-600whp, depending on which turbo you decide on.

We are aiming for a retail price of 3995.00, and plan to do a group buy once testing is complete, and production is ready to commence.[/quote]remember thats whp, so that would be like 500-700 hp

Honestly, it's the price point. To get the options we're getting in the 2.5 in a 3.5 adds a few thousand dollars, which, we're not comfortable spending right now. We went near the upper limit of our predetermined amount we were willing to spend on a car with this one.

Before, we were looking at used cars, but the CARS program allowed us to add a few grand onto our down payment, which paid for all the extra creature comforts: leather, moonroof, bose/bluetooth.

Yes, it will cost me more in the long run, but in the immediate future, my truck is about to breath its last breath and I don't want to be holding the keys when it croaks. Me being a student, money isn't exactly a luxury for us right now, but it hopefully will be once again when I graduate and start making some real money full-time. Fiscal responsibility won this round.....

Ah gotcha. Yeah I can understand getting either a basic 3.5 SE which is no joke either, or a loaded 2.5 for the money.

Personally I have no use for leather and moonroof/sunroofs (aside from jacking the price up and showing it off to friends who don't care, haha), but my 3.5 SE coupe (the only one on the lot that was a 3.5.. ) had a moonroof aside from being a base 3.5 SE w/ CVT and cloth seats. Apparently as per the dealership the 6-speed 2.5 and 3.5 Coupes don't sell a lot so dealers don't keep them much on the lots, hence they are harder to come by. Some story!

Well I can see you have a strong opinion on rice cans. Yes, you shall get along swimmingly.

I'll post some pics soon - I haven't even taken delivery of the car yet. That should be happening in the next couple of days....I'm removing some last minute stuff from my old truck, namely, the remote start/security system.

Sedan. I really, really, liked the coupe, but in the the interest of getting my daughter and dog in and out with ease, practicality won.
