I just bought a CA so I thought I post an intro since you'll likely be hearing from me a bit.

I have an 89 coupe that I converted to manual last winter. Now I'm putting a CA in.

I don't plan to go crazy with it. I already built a '91 galant VR-4. Since it comes with the stock IC and piping, I plan to use that for a while. Other than a larger fuel pump, O2 pipe, 3" down pipe, test pipe, cat back and boost controller, maybe an SR t25 will go in.

The 240 is so light compared to the 3200?lbs of my galant, that I think that the power from the CA w/ the bolt ons above will put a smile on my face.

As far as maintenance before the install, I will likely change the timing belt, water pump, acc belts and fluid. I'm not sure how necessary it would be to change the head gasket and bearings.

let me be the first to say, welcome to the CA forum. as the knight dude in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade"said: "you have chosen....wisely" we're glad to have you.

when i swapped my engine i just changed the belts, fluids and water pump (since it was sticking a little bit) and tore a$$ down the street.

the CA with that stuff should put a pretty nice size smile on your face, it did for me. with that boost controller though, i would want to be careful. the stock IC isnt very good and so youre going to have very high (read: higher than coolant temp.) intake temperatures. also, since the end tanks are plastic you run the risk of popping them off at higher boost levels. itll be okay up to about 9lbs on the stock turbo, but anything over that is pushing your luck. you might want to think about using an sr side mount (metal end tanks) or getting an ARC side mount (they pop up on ebay occasionally).

i think the 240sx is about 500lbs lighter than the gay-lant, so the ~200hp youll be looking at should be a blast. mine ripped with only 151whp - smoked my friend's '01 svt cobra mustang by a massive amount from a 2nd gear roll.

if youve got any questions, feel free to ask. we here on the CA forum pride ourselves at being much nicer and helpful as we are a very small and close-knit bunch of people.

I still have the galant. I've had it for about 5 years now. AWD, 4 doors, and boost is pretty fun and practical. However I yearn for something that's lighter, will handle better, and still be practical.

I just have basic stuff on my car, and it is always quick enough for me. I played on the highway last nite, doing 5th gear pulls. Shocked me how on boost (I am at 8.5psi) it just pulled so hard from 4k-7k. Great engine.

At this point I'm more nervous than excited. Thoughts of failing oil pumps, spun bearings, ...

The motor was pulled from a 1990 180sx and has aprox 92k miles on it. They said the engine was in good running condition when it was pulled from the car in Japan.

What's the minimum that I should do? The mileage is higher than I would like, but maybe the fact that it hasn't sat as long could be a good thing.

What do you think?

Oh, also, are you guys using the CA18DE water pumps?

Thanks!

hey is your galant Green? I think I remember you coming out to test drive my silver 240sx that I was selling way back. I live also live in Columbus OH. MY name is Dennis. You drove out to the northeast side to test drive it. You brought your girlfiend along but left her in the car while you test drove mine....atleast I think that was you.
