Hey all, great forum, name is Lee, I am looking forward to learning a lot about my new 1998 Q45. It is white with 42,000 miles and it is super clean!!! My first upgrade will be new wheels and I am searching now. My question is, do I have to run Premium Fuel like the manual suggest? Thanks and I will post pictures soon after a wheel purchase.

Welcome, and be assured the manuals generally don't lie.

Unfortunately by the time premiums get to the pump the pass thru to stores has inflated the 5-7 cents differential from the refiner.

Everyone along the chain adds a few pennies to recover the extra costs vs low volume.

Less than 20% of total gasoline sold is premium yet it takes the same valuable space to transport and store.

I think of premium as just buying extra lower cost detergents than I can buy at retail..............20 gallons of premium DIFFERENTIAL is much less expensive than a bottle of Techron and significantly less than 11 ounces of BG44K.

Whether one [with oem ecu software] can function on 89 depends on local conditions altitude and temperature. AT some point you willl need extra detergents whether you can alternate Premium with midgrade and save $2 per week................just to spend it on Techron or 44k depends on local conditions and how you drive.

If Q45tech says it, generally it's always best to follow his directions. I think we all agree to run Prem in the Qs.
