Oh man Im so bummed I have to do this, but I need to ask what most would think is a dumb question, but I'm confused.

I am going to buy an 89 240sx. American KA24E. Automatic.
The transmission is locked up. No Reverse. You cant even push it in reverse if the cars in neutral.
The car comes with a 96 KA24de attached to a smooth automatic transmission. I DO NOT want to swap in a 5 speed right now. Well, I do but I cant afford it. I just want to get the KA24DE in it and drive the damned thing. It's coming with the 96 240's Mass air flow sensor, ecu and harness..

I have read that I need to use the s13s intake, ECU, hack up the S13 harness etc.. That seems like a lot of work. I get it. Youre 89 ECU thinks it is controlling the S13 motor, but really its controlling the dual cam.. Kind alike your wifes sister hopping in the bed. Can be lots of fun, but still wrong. I don't think that's a good idea. Especially if I have the ECU for the twin cam. Why not use it?

If I have a complete engine with all connections, air flow meter, harness and ECU from the DE can I just hook it all up nice and clean and then splice the DE harness into the body harness of the S13? This way I have the proper intake, ECU, Air flow meter etc.. on the correct engine..
I've read KA24e to KA24de swap - Step-by-step repeatedly, and it's just not that clear.
I dont see why I would use an 89 harness and ecu with a 96 engine.. Why not 96 ecu and harness with the 96 motor?
Please dont be too rough on me. I was a looong time S30 owner and I had dual carbs. I managed a 280zxt motor swap into my 72 240z and that went well. This should be pretty easy no?
Thanks for reading everyone..
Is it that crazy to just swap the auto transmission from the KA24DE onto the KA24E and just cruise it? This would allow me to rebuild the dual cam and do all sorts of craziness to it before I find a 5 speed and swap em both in.. Anyone know if the transmission swap is easy from auto to auto? It's probably the first time it's ever been done. hahaha.

By the way I have been searching and searching. The kid who's selling it is getting annoyed but I dont have a lot of time to screw around.

The KA-E ECU won't run the KA-DE motor. You would need an S13 KA-DE EFI setup.

But there's nothing that says you can't run the S14 OBD-II setup. It's a bit more of a hassle to run in an older car, and you won't have the OBD-II diagnostic port, but it's doable. Just make sure all the proper power and ground complete connections are transferred from the dash plug of the S14 harness to the 2 chassis plugs by the battery on the S13.

I highly recommend grabbing the service manuals for both and going over the EC sections to compare what needs to go where.
