Just like the title says. Need to get some internet going in my new apartment and want to find out who you guys like to use. I have always used Cox, they are pretty good for me. I would probably use the most expensive ($65/ month) with download of 25mb and upload of 5mb.

I have heard some guys on here talk about Comcast, etc though, and would like your opinions. Ok, GO!

Verizon Fios is pretty quick. Depends on what package you get though. However, Verizon has a reputation for glitchy billing and high prices.

Had verizon for 10 years. 7 years of DSL and 3 of FIOS. Great experience so far.
Fios has spotty availability though.
But if it's in your area, get it.

I would advise against Comcast. I had their service before I moved out here and they had ridiculous fees. Their promotions are great but when they run out, you need a welfare check to help pay for that b*tch.

ISP quality varies GREATLY by region. A lot of it depends on your local offices, etc.

Comcast has their ups and downs. They offer some pretty fast options for cable, but they're pricey.
They're also kind of scary on the privacy and net-neutrality front (they'll throttle bandwidth for torrent users, among other things).

I have Comcast's 2nd-tier package. I forget what the "rated" bandwidth is, but it more than supports an apartment full of internet-connected digital nerdery.

If FIOS was available here, I'd give it a try. Comcast is okay at best, but when their service (either internet itself or their customer service) starts to falter they become downright infuriating.

Fios and Uverse are pretty damn impressive.

Anything but Charter, I say.

If you have multiple providers in your area...hop from one promotion to the other. Even factoring set-up fees you can save a lot of money. I went from Comcast, to Verizon, to Qwest.

True story, If you call up Comcast when they are set to increase your monthly fee and tell them you're going to Dish or FiOS, they'll give you the promotion again.

Haven't had any issues with Comcast - simultaniously run 3 xboxes, 4 computers all at the same time - everything works awesome, I see real download speeds up to 3.0 Mb/s or more.

Fios most definitely rocks.

Charter (my current provider) can suck a big, black one- in tv, internet, phone, and technical service of ANY kind. f***' awful. Lazy bastards who are only in business because the big guys won't or can't do business in Charters areas.

Is Qwest any good? They have a really good promotion right now of their 20mbps tier for only 20 bucks. Any thoughts?

Qwest is reliable, but the last time I lived in a Qwest region was 2003.

Yea I just checked the availability. It looks like I can't get the 20mbps tier in my area. Only up to 7. I'll verify that in the morning though.

Around here all Qwest offers is sickly-slow DSL for laughably outrageous fees that make Comcast look generous.
