i have three computers in the house, all of them connected to the same switchboard.

Two of them do not connect to internet but one does. I disconnect the wires and switch them to the one that makes my other one work and it still doesn't work.

I can connect to the other computers to throw files around but no internet. the one computer that works was the only that has been off. the other 2 were on, maybe i got hacked?

Is there is a tool or something that will get my other 2 computers to work? I checked the lan connection settings and everything was fine. I click repair connection and it still doesn't work. I create a network from scratch for lan and it doesn't work. I am going crazy. No viruses on the systems either.

switchboard = wifi router that i use to connect all my wired connections to, wifi if not being used. and i did just connect the non working computers strait to the main internet modem and it still doesn't work. Thats how i know its the computers and not my setup.

What do you mean by "switchboard"? What is the device they're plugged into (router, switch, hub)?

So the computers can recognize each other through the router even though they can't connect to the internet? Did this whole setup work previously?

yea they have worked for the past 4 years. Its the computers not the set up, even when i hard wire my internet modem to my computer it doesn't work, its software problem not hardware.

Do the computers have IP addresses that look reasonable? Like they were assigned by the router?

Do the computers re-establish any connection if you do a release/renew?

k now im getting this message when i try to repair or as some call it renew.

YOU MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE INTERNET OR SOME NETWORK RESOURCES. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED BECAUSE THE NETWORK DID NOT ASSIGN A NETWORK ADDRESS TO THIS COMPUTER.

im not trying to scream or be cool = ] just quote.

Sounds like your router is doing something goofy. Have you gone into the configuration on the router and verified all of the settings? Sorry I can't help much more, it's tough to debug these issues without being in front of your setup.

There might be something mis-configured on the network settings for the computers that wont connect. Are they set to have their IP addresses assigned rather then set as a static IP? Try connecting one of the computers that wont connect to the cable modem and then try a release/renew.

If you want someone to check it out, check the phone book for a computer repair service. They'll do a better job and cheaper than something like Geek Squad.
