I heard on the radio a few weeks ago about someone who was from NY, but lived in India. They had a NY based cellphone and number. However, they could make international phone calls, from India, to the U.S. through highspeed internet, and it wouldn't cost them a thing. They connected their phone to the computer, and as long as they had a solid internet connection, incoming calls were free, as well as outgoing calls.
So basically, you could dial NY, and it would get forwarded to India via the internet (when the phone was hooked to the computer) and it would be free to the girl in India, and just be like calling NY. And then the girl in India could dial through her computer and it would be free and ring a phone in the U.S.
My question is this:
Does anybody know where to find any more info on this technology? I am interested in it. I may be spending a fair amount of time in England soon, and international roaming charges are insane (I could take it for a week or so, but it would get really pricey after that). I think t-mobile roaming charges in England are about $1/min...ouch.
