before one shoudl say that internal wg is for low boost only and external / quality wg such as hks/tial will accomindate for high boost, is that really true? I mean I read many issue associated with the external wg spring rate wrong so the boost just keep on going or the wg surge or other issues....

basiclally, I have a new gt2871r .64 turbo that's been sitting there for almost a year and I would like to install it soon... it has internal wastegate, planning to run 15~18psi and want to get no more than 400rwhrp for it... not sure what to do about the wastegate part

External wastegate has much better boost control and produces more power. It weighs more and it is more costly, but I think the benefits outweigh the cost.

yeah, I am having 2nd thought on my dc manifold and would probably go with a hks wastegate

that means I need a new manifold... can you recommend something for me?

also I read that the internal wastegate needs to be welded shut, correct?

Yes, you weld shut the internal gate.

I would suggest a Tial W/G as parts are more readibly found.

Peak Boost, 1-Fab, Boost Logic, Full Race, etc.

hm... full face manifold will run for abour 900, a tial wastegate will run another 100 so that's 1000

for 1000 you can get new oil pump (200), cams (350?), lesser manifold like dc (300), arp head studs (150)

Hey sorry to bring back the post. I have the gt2871r also. I have an internal wastegate and the car is tuned at 14psi on a mustang dyno. I put down 266whp. I have a built head and lots of other mods. You will never see 400rwhp at that low of boost. Gt2871rs actually start making power after 20psi.

Use a stock exhaust manifold and weld on a wastegate flange. This is what Enthalpy did to make the most out of the .64ar GT2871r.

$240 can get you a .63 T3 Exhaust housing so you can go top mount and external gate. Im doing this in a few months. I absolutly hate the internal gate of my 2871R .64. The actuator has a lag period to open the wastegate and it sucks for finding the boost you want. If you stick with the internal gate i would definitly recommend putting on a HKS Actuator from a T25 or something thats more responsive. Its gonna need a custom bracket though.

I made 270whp on 14psi with a below 10.0 AFR. I am now running 18psi with an AFR of around 11.5. I should be seeing the 320+whp area now.

+1 for that idea. That is the most cost effective way to go for your hp goal.
