ok for those who dont know, im most likely going to be getting a "junk" motor for dirt cheap and will most likely have to rebuild it. now as for the internals, are the rods forged like the VG30? and the pistons are cast right? Im not planning on boosting this motor so there is no need for forged lower comp pistons. however since i will be rebuilding it anyways, what companies have aftermarket pistons, can be stock size, that are forged?

and if the stock rods are forged there is no need to get replacements, but what about the main/rod bearings? should i got with OEM from Infiniti/Nissan or will a local parts store be "good" enough. the plan for my build is just basically a stock motor with bolt ons, all the power i need.

plus i am also trying to research rebuild kits, mainly for the gaskets, seals, metal timing chain guides, timming chain, etc. thanks guys for the info in advanced

EDIT: ALSO.....now the injectors are 370cc just like the TTZ, however did the change to the new style type in 94 like the Z did or did they stick with the same ones through all the years. and if so, what modifications will i need to go to the newer style injectors.

Why rebuild, when you can buy a clean good running engine for $400.00?

if i could find one in the atl, ga area i might do that. but then again i still want to make sure itll run good. it is a 13+ year old motor so might as well go ahead and make it last another 13 years. and maybe do some performance to gain some few extra ponies out of it, i will be running a 50 shot of nitrous so i want to make sure the same thing dont happen to my vg

Atlanta is the MECCA for Q45/VH45 stuff... You should have no problem finding a running engine there...

Just be sure you dont buy one where the guides are bad unless you plan on buying an extra set of heads...

If you can wait until Sept - Oct, I'll have a 1992 with 78K miles, guides replaced and runs perfect, no smoke, idles very smooth, and is one of the strongest Q45s I've ever driven. Too bad the body is a mess.

I was going to ask $500, but I'd sell it for $400.00. Even with shipping, that's still less cost than buying a JDM motor and paying a shop to verify it's a good engine.

Switched to new style in 94.

To swap, you will need complete rails w/ injectors, injector sub-harness, and some washers from the hardware store. Search this forum as well as the Q45 forum and you'll find plenty of info.

FYI, I have phase 2 injectors on my 92 motor...

well hell ya then, i love the new style injectors, i never had a problem with mine in the Z with 180k. but that definitely will be a must do thing. lol might as well make it as reliable as possible

FWIW, don't completely buy into the injector sphincter...

I've personally owned 8 sets of Q injectors, 5 P1 and 3 P2. Of the 40 P1 injectors I've had, 7 were bad. Of the 24 P2 injectors I've had 16 were bad and another is on its way out.

I'm not completely sold on the fact that P2 injectors are better than P1, they're just newer, which is why I think we havn't seen as many failures yet. I could be wrong, and I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't think we've seen the whole picture yet.

I have the P2 rails in my VH-Z and I'm ordering a set of DW remans soon. If it wasn't for the savings in running P2 injectors, I'd probably be switching back to P1...

Dsagers if any thing happens and he is unable to buy your motor I would love to come pick it up. I have family in Parowan and it'd be an easy trip to make.

vg30de93 I'm not trying to jump on your deal, just want to be second in line

If time is of the essence ATL has 4+ JDM importers with warehouses full of engines usually sold to shops for replacements.

Try http://www.onypc.com/japanese-engine-of-atlanta

We have purchased dozens of pristine low mile V8 for Q over the years but none this year for $1,000-$1200. But you must know how to select a perfect engine by inspection on site.
