OK long story I will try to make this as short as possible. Just bought the Truck w/200,000 miles and it was running fine, just had the initial rattle at start up, so I took it apart to change the timing chain, once I was in there, I noticed the timing chain was in great shape and had recently been changed. I put it back together without removing any of the timing components except for the distributor. Put it all back together and started it and it had a internal engine tick. Advanced the timing to 10 and it went away and started to run good. 2 weeks later the internal engine tick is back. It last for about 5 min and then it goes away, it may take it two hours of running to start, or sometimes simply at startup. The only consistency is that the check engine light comes on and the tick starts then it usually goes off when the tick stops. I thought that it was a sticking valve, however the truck runs great when it is ticking. Please send all suggestions, even if it does include a good mechanic in East Texas :>)

Were both timing chain guides complete and in place?
See my thread for example.

Yeah both were in place, buddies are telling me that it is a sticking valve. However the engine does not cut out any when the is ticking. I used a stethscope on it and it sounds like it is coming from under the aluminum/puder valve cover. Any further thoughts. Thanks for all your help, it is greatly appericiated.

There isn't a knock sensor, so we can rule that out.

Well these engines also have a habit of having seized lifters.

I did my timing chain and looked everything over and everything else seemed fine but I still have a clacking around 2.3k+ RPM while accelerating. I am gonna prolly try this fix out soon.
