Intermittent transmission Prob 92 240sx vert :(

Can anyone point me in the right direction? My automatic transmission, on occassion, wont shift into 4th. I had a mech check it out and everything looked fine with it. Could it be an electrical problem? I know this sounds nuts but could this be tied in to a ac compressor that is going bad? The car has 98K on itthanksLorri

I doubt that A/C and transmission issues would have any correspondence to each other. I would rule that out.

Read it cover to cover.. you'll find a bunch of great info in there about the transmission and some related sensors and wiring that impact how they work.

By the way... if you come down to the point where you need to make a decision on repairs... Don't spend much money fixing an auto trans.. You can do a 5 spd conversion pretty easily for around $500. It would be a great upgrade for your car rather than repairing the old slushbox.

WOW thanks for the info, that thread was amazing! Hubby said when it gets bad we will do something about it. It happens every 10 days or so and I can handle it. Rather then swap out the transmission for a 5 speed, my dilemma right now is sitting in my garage is a 87 300zx 5 speed we just bought for $900. The car is nice, not quite as nice as my 240 but really smoking. I don't know if I can give up my 240 vert for an older car, with more miles and t-tops
