Hi there,

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima with a New Engine, New Transmission. For the past year, when I put the key in the ignition and turn the key, I hear a click, but sometimes the engine just won't turn on. The battery has been tested and working fine. All my lights, electric windows/locks, radio work, but sometimes the engine just won't turn over.....sometimes. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't. I have a few keys, and they all do the same thing. I just have to be patient and keep trying to start the car, because it will turn on, I just have to keep trying. I've tried for as long as 30 minutes. Most of the time it will start, but not always. It seems to be some type of sensor, but I just don't know. I don't want to take it to a dealer since they charge an arm and a leg.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading,
Maggie

Any check engine lights on?

The buzzing sounds may be a bad ignition or a bad starter.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I don't know what buzzing sounds you're referring to, I don't hear any buzzing sounds. There is no "Check Engine Light" on.

Thanks!

Might be your ignition system or starter.

i cant remember what the sensor was called but on my sisters car she kinda had the same problem...with hers it was the sensor that told the ECU that you turned the key from "OFF" to "ACC" to "ON" and sometimes hers would malfunction and it wouldn't register that she turn the key to the "ON" position and wouldn't start but if she turned it off then tried it again it would work?

might be something to look into maybe not, but you had mentioned sensor and i thought about that
