Hi,

I have a 2011 QX56 with 80K miles. In the past month it randomly has been having starting problems. On several occasions when you push the start button nothing happens, it is absolutely dead. But it starts very easily and quickly with a jump. After a jump, it runs well for days or weeks then will not start again. The Nissan battery is 2 years old and I've had it checked twice and it is in great shape, so is the alternator.

I just took it to the dealer and they cannot get the car to repeat the problem. Also, there are zero codes, everything, they say, looks perfect.

At this point I feel like I'm stuck with a very expensive and a very unreliable car. The wife now refuses to drive it with our small kids for fear of being stranded.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? It's interesting that the dealer is willing to give up so easily. I also find it hard to believe they haven't heard of this before.

Thank you!

Follow Up: After mentioning to the dealer IPDM and BCM, they stated this only applied to earlier models for random no starts. The tech rep said he had never heard of this problem on 2011 or later QX's during his 7 years at Infiniti.

He said ultimately since it always restarted easily with a jump, it has to be the battery. They gave me a free battery and said that should do it. So far since Saturday AM, no issues. We'll see...

the IPDM is a simple relay. it can go bad and will. dont get snowed by the stealer.

every case is unique, so it could simply be a bad battery. the stock battery that come with the newer q's (2011+) is under-powered. there are a lot of sensors, electronics and other things that are active when the car is off.

I have an AGM battery in my 2012 (aftermarket) and it supports the equipment on the car well.

hopefully in your case its just the battery. keep the class updated...
