Intermittent Start problem...anyone else have this??

I have an all stock 93 Convert. New Plugs, wires, rotor, cap and reasonably new gas filter. Periodically car just cranks but does not catch. I get wierd smell, not like gas. If I don't kill the battery first, and I wait, try again it starts. It has happened like this over the years, never when warm, just when sitting overnight and you never know when. Any thoughts on what to do or check?

try jump starting it.

When the battery finaly dies, I do. But what causes it not to start and then start 1/2 hr later?? Then do fine for months until it happens again...

if it doesnt start when you try jump starting then you know your battery is ok. battery is always first thing to check. your battery may just be weak or your alternator may be marginal etc
