Hello to all.

I have a '93 J30 with about 130k mi. Original trans replaced recently. Car sat for about six months awaiting good weather to change the timing belt, which I was able to do with no problems thanks to 95-J30tt.

OEM radio is shot, no power. When I removed it it had two prior repair stickers on it, one from '99 the other from '03, so although I like the OEM look I have declared it unreliable and have an aftermarket replacement on its way from Crutchfield. Carstereohelp.com says that they have stopped servicing the pre '95 units, when they stopped they were charging $350 and still losing money because so many were coming back. I found the original FSM in its proper location in the trunk, I don't think it had ever been out of the vehicle until I used it to troubleshoot the radio. Using the wiring diagram I was able to confirm that there is incoming power to the radio at the harness.

Today's problem concerns the speedometer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it sits at 60 to 80 m/hr, sometimes it goes all the way over to 150 m/hr plus, etc etc. What should I check, and in what order? Wondering if there is a sending unit on the trans that may have been damaged during the replacement trans installation...

Thanks in advance for any input/advice

Referencing the speedometer problem noted below, I sure could use some advice on whether or not there is a quick/easy way to determine if the problem is at the sending unit or the cluster

If the consensus is it is the cluster or I am able to confirm same, does anybody have one available?

Try cleaning out the contacts on the cluster an re-plugging in.
