I have a 91 Q & I am getting intermittent power steering loss. It steers fine for a while & then it's like it has no power steering. I am still able to steer but like I said it is like a car without power steering. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

The manual gives the procedure to check the circuitry, usually checking the correct terminal in the diagnostic connector while driving will isolate the problem. I have seen 2 controllers fail recently, both would drop test voltage when tapped.

Does your sppedo drop out at the same time? That's what happens to me - speedo conks out and the power steering drops out at the same time.

When I posted this problem recentlyy, the reply was that the speed sensor/speedo head unit needs to be replaced. I have the part on order, so I haven't replaced it yet.

No, I have not noticed that but when it happens, if I shut the car off & start it up again power steering comes back. Also it seems to happen more in warmer weather.

sounds like a failing power steering control unit. This is box about the size of a deck of cards buried in the dash.

The manual shows to test the units output (control) voltage where the consult adapter is in the fuse box.
