Got both bank codes on the way home last night after driving for about 20 miles on the HW.
Cleared the codes, and they did not re-occur this morning on the way to work.
Does this normally mean that the flex section rotted if both are thrown simultaneously?

Could be an exhaust leak, could be sluggish up or downstream O2 sensors or it could be the real thing. Do you do steady highway runs often with the van? That's typically when the catalyst inefficiency codes will be set. Any time that downstream sensor(s) don't see less O2 content than the upstream.

Typical last ditch effort fix in my neck of the woods is thread one or several "sparkplug antifoulers" into the downstream sensor bung, to push the probe out of the exhaust stream a bit and the code doesn't come back.

It actually threw the code once I got off the HW and was driving in light traffic on the back roads. Usually my last 5-10 miles on the HW is stop and go, then steady 55 Mph, then I exit and drive through several street lights in stop and go traffic, and onto the back roads. That's when it lit up check engine. I'll change the PCV valve as an insurance, and perhaps install oil catcher, and see how it goes. Really don't want to do any exhaust work, but if I have to, the defoulers sound like a plan.
