Hey guys,

Since the swap was done on my car, my s13 red top has had an intermittent kind of knock/tap from under the valve cover (at least thats where it sounds like its coming from). It only happens once the engine is warmed up enough to thin the oil a bit (15w50 Mobil 1), and it isn't a regular repetitive noise like the lifters or if it was knock.

I unplugged the coil packs one by one to see if it was some sort of bottom end knock but the noise wasn't affected by pulling out the coils. The bearings were checked before the swap, all were in spec, though the main bearings were getting a bit worn. New thrust bearings were installed too, but that might be irrelevant.

Anyways, it sounds like a semi irregular sort of knock from under the valve cover, hard to describe, and my camera takes really s***ty video. It sounds like its coming from the back of the exhaust side of the valve cover.

If anyone has any ideas that'd be great.

Thanks alot,Chris

The same problem occured with my friends s13 blacktop...it started after an event he entered which consisted of some high reving but it did it until the motor went due to a rings but when we put it back 2gether 3 days ago it doesnt do it anymore...the only thing we did was bleed the lifters and install rocker arm stoppers...could be your issue..idk its just irrelevant
