Hi, everyone! My name is Yev and I am new to the forum :) I recently purchased a used 2008 Nissan Rogue S and had a few minor repairs done along the way. Several months ago and up until now, I have been noticing intermittent gasoline odour emanating from under the hood and the driver's-side door. This usually occurs when I perform a cold-start. After the car warms up, the odour goes away. Whether the car is running rich, I cannot confirm, but I doubt this is normal for most Rogue owners. I had Nissan inspect my Rogue and they could not find any gasoline leaks, pinhole(s) in the fuel line, etc. Any ideas?

Your Feedback is Much Appreciated,

Yev

totaly normal. when you cold start, unburnt exhaust fumes will exit the tail pipe and into possibly into the cabin. it takes a few minutes for the catalytic converter to heat up before its able to burn away any unspent fuel particles.

why its coming into the cabin is because above the drivers feet, along the firewall, are opening into the engine compartment. (as well as the pressure vent flaps in the rear)

ever have any rear collisions?

Hi, ImStricken. Thank you for your help! According to Car Proof, no collisions. Then again, they only keep a record of insurance claims....

just wondering, not 'really' indicitive of anything. again, your symptoms are often felt if the wind blows the exhaust fumes under the car. its common with any car.

so you get any water leakage in your door seals? do you often smell outside smells? (checking to see if you have any door seal failures)

ImStricken - No water leakage and I cannot smell outside odours unless the HVAC is on or my windows are down.

ImStricken - Not at all. The strange part is that this problem started two weeks after I bought the car. I had a Service Engine Soon light come on and noticed a significant drop in fuel economy. The code returned a gross leak - vent control valve. I drove to Nissan and had them replace my vent control valve. The code was cleared and everything went well. Now, I'm smelling the same gasoline but no Service Engine Soon light and no change in fuel economy......
