just thought i would check here before i go to my mechanic. here is the situation.

'96 240sx, stock engine, exhaust, etc. aem cai.

i have a check engine light that comes on and off and until today i thought it was random. I was heading to the beach this morning and on the way i went over a couple of bumps in the road that were a little jaring. just after the bumps, the check engine light came on. It was on last week, and then went off until today.

So...is there a common thing that might get "upset" when a bump happens? i had the knock sensor replaced a couple of weeks ago so im pretty sure its not that...(also because it comes and goes) There is no dissernable difference in the power of the car when the check engine light is on or off.

I'm hopeing someone has had this problem and might know how to fix it. Thanks for everyones time.

WTF??? 240's have check engine lights.....wow....I honestly thought Nissan was unnaware of their existence...lol

Joking aside, it sounds like you need to get an OBD-II scanner and check your codes, or go to pep boys or autozone and they'll do it for free.

I think the scanner is like $50. But well worth it.

That should tell you what is causing the problem to turn the light on.

And no, it doesn't just happen on random like that for no good reason.

heck, u can drive to your local autozone for a free scan... Pepboys will charge you to get your codes scanned!

then reset the ecu... drive until it lights up again & see if the code matches...

go from there, grasshoppa!
