Hello all. I just got my car back from a local shop that fixed a previous problem I was having with my turbo and also an idling issue I was having. Well, they replaced my turbo, and fixed my idling issue, however I noticed something on the drive back from picking up the car. Once I picked the car up and was driving it home all was normal and the car ran strong. However, 20 minutes into driving I noticed that as I was accelerating the car started to stutter, pop, and generally felt sluggish. I then pulled over for a bit and stopped the car. I waited around and then decided to finish the rest of my trip since the shop was now closed. The weird part was that the rest of the trip was fine, the car ran strong again and had no problems. Fast forward to the next day. Same issue, car runs fine for half the day and then the problem comes back again. I end up calling the shop back and had them look over it again. They claimed that it was a wiring issue and said that they fixed it and checked all the codes and everything was fine. Well, again, like before, I picked it up and the same scenario happens again. The problem is that the car seems to run fine, and then this intermittent stuttering, popping, and sluggishness returns, but it only happens for a couple minutes or less, and then its back to normal. So I was wondering if anyone has had this issue, or knows about how I can get it fixed? Sorry for the long story. Also, if you need further explanation let me know.

check your coilpack... can be your ignitor connection too .

Yea, it sounds like the ignitor or a coilpack is getting hot and giving up.

I'll be sure to check these out. Thanks for the help. Also, do the Ca18de coil packs work for our engine. I think they do, but just need some reassurance. Thanks.

I had a post earlier about identifying an intermittent problem with my CA engine. Some of you pointed to either the resistor or Coil-packs. Well, I was able to get some 2nd hand coil-packs the other day, but was wondering about how I should test the ones that are in my car in order to see which ones need to be replaced? Can any of you give me some pointers on how to do this?

Thank you

Thanks Dee. Any advice? By the way, the guy I bought the coil packs from said he got them from you. Thought that was interesting.

A dead or failing coil pack or a failing ignitor wouldn't cause it to pop. When you say sluggishness, do you mean the car feels like it has lost at least 40% of its power? If this is the case it could be a coil pack. If you've changed all the coil packs, then start looking at the ignitor. When yo say popping, where is the popping coming from (intake or exhaust). Re-check the codes on your ecu as this could be a crank angle sensor preparing to take a dump on you. Too many unanswered questions to narrow it down to particular sector of the ECCS.

Just pulled the codes and I'm getting a code 34 (detonation sensor). Would this be causing the problems that I have been having? I have not yet changed out the plugs or coil packs yet, but want to do this one step at a time to figure out what is wrong.

Checked the knock sensor to see if it was wired up and it is. However, I noticed that the actual sensor was some what loose so I tightened it. Not sure if it being loose was causing the computer to throw a code 34, but will check the ECU tomorrow to double check. Its 1230am and I'm tired. Peace.
