hrmm. Here's the deal.

From time to time my car seems like it's ...struggling.

I know it's not performing to its full potential, then...sometimes for a few minutes..sometime for hours..it's kickin ***. Seems like at least a 20hp difference.

Most of the time it kicks in to full power in the middle of hard acceleration.

Anyone have any ideas on where to start?

Is it a manual or automatic? If it's an auto, then maybe it's just not downshifting when you want it to.

Manual--uhh, i don't know, your car sucks?

Don't understand your question really..

It's a 5 speed. I'm just saying that it seems like it's not pulling like it should half of the time. It's an on and off problem. It's very apparent using my seat-of-the-pants dyno.

It's not a weather issue. It does it year round, cold, hot, cold engine, hot engine, doesn't matter.

I guess I'm gonna start by going through the hanresses and connectors.

I'm doing an engine swap for a built engine soon, but I'm afraid the problem will still be there.

If I had to guess I'd say air flow meter, 02 sensor, or coolant temp sensor or their connections. They each have a small bit of control over the fuel mix, and your problem sounds like an electrical connection problem.
