I have an 08 Infiniti G35 with ~30,000 on it. I noticed that alot of the interior plastic piece are peeling the paint off. Most prevalent on tbhe steering wheel and near the door panel "handles"

Any one else experience this?

yes very common. you should be still under warranty and take it to the dealer for a full free replacement. you get a new steering wheel columns and door trim. i got mine last month.

i called Prestige Infiniti here in Tallahassee area and they seem reluctant to want to replace anything. i am taking it in Friday for the to look at it. I have no peeling in the back because that area of the vehicle is never touched. my stearing wheel its decent, but I would love a new one. My driver and passenger front door panels are what is worst.

anything I can do to persuade them to replace? i would think that replacing everything at once would most efficient for them.

there is nothing that can be done. its just the quality of the material that was used. :ohno: i mean you can put painters tape on it. :rotfl

yes that was the first answer i got from my dealer. i mean my dealer experiences has been probably the worst ever with everything that i went through with my infinit ownership here :bigfu: . but besides that, just talk to them in a calm/stern matter they always try to get your $$ either way you look at it. then i told my service tech, umm so you wont replace mine but then why did 50 other infiinti owners get that treatment with no hassle did they pay more than the msrp for the car thats why they get better service then me??? oh well ill need to review this with the service manager. ok. oh well need to get this approved by infinit. ok. and i got a call parts will be in. i should be all set.

also try using a different dealer if you can, or you can also tell them if they dont budge that you will be contacting infiniti owners circle to voice your opinion on the experience.
i mean we should even be discussing this its such a common and simple fix but, hope that helps.:luck:

The only trim issue I have is missing paint near the stereo buttons (steering wheel controls) on the wife's '07 and you only see it if the wheel is turned. Everything else seems to be holding up.

i have that issue on my 08 as well. its not too bad, but still looks gaudy. i can only see it when the wheel is turned.

i have alot of faith in the mechanic aspect of Infiniti, but you would think that they would put a bit more effort into the aesthetic piece of the car and manufacture something that will hold up... my $.02

went to Prestige Infiniti today. The service advisor looked it all over and said that it would all be covered under warranty. She noted my mileage as of today and ask for my patience getting it fixed. She said that they are switching parts vendors now and there is a freeze on ordering these particular parts. she said she will call me in July to reschedule the replacement.

Does this sound strange or do these vendor transitions happen from time to time?

this is the only Infiniti dealer within 100 miles. Im in rural North Florida. =(

Thanks for the info guys, I'm going to make an appointment to get mines taken care of. I have an 07 and I am not yet out of warranty, so this is great news to hear. My steering wheel and door handle area looks horrific!

Timmy,

How close are you to your warranty running out. I believe it's 4 yrs/60,000miles. If she looked at your mileage and asked you to come back in July, she is either hoping that your warranty expires before then, or she believes that you should have enough miles left to cover it. . .make a decision based off of that.

is this a pre 2010 problem? my door trim doesn't look like the same material as my steering wheel buttons area.

As a result of my career I am pretty thorough. I asked her a hypothetical question, such as if my mileage has exceeded warranty coverage by the time she can do the replacement, what will happen. She said that she notated my mileage at the time of this visit and it will be covered. I told her I will be calling her July to follow up. I do have 29k left on warranty coverage.

yes this is a 07-09 issue.

i would not sit around and wait for a trim peice for two months. tell them to call around other dealers out of state if they have one in stock, if they dont say fine call them yourself. get confirmation that they have it and have them send it over to your dealership.

or even easier just call up any infiniti dealer, and tell them what you want to get and they will provide that for you. takes 5 min to do.

i just wanted to update you folks on the warranty work i am having done. since the dealership was in between vendors, when i visited them in May, they asked that I check with them July1 because they should have their transition completed. When I called in July, they asked to check back in Aug. Well i just got off the phone with them and they said that they just got authorization to replace my steering wheel as well as my door panel trim (both are affected by the peeling). They will call me when the parts arrive and we will schedule a time to replace from there. I will let you know the outcome when everything is complete. thanks for the advice(s).

You guys are lucky. . .I've been told that the claim was denied when they submitted it to Infiniti. They said they don't make the decision themselves. So I kindly asked for the number to Infiniti and they emailed me the information today, so I will be giving a call in the morning. This is such BS.

You'd better believe that I am. I'm sitting here reading Consumer Affairs nightmares from other Infiniti owners and I can only hope and fight like hell, that I don't get treated the same. If I would have known, I would have bough another BMW.

have you tried another dealer? I am glad mine did it first try because the next closest dealer is over 100 miles away.

I called Infiniti Consumer Affairs and told them what my issue was. They said they would call a Regional Manager in the area and have him/her further investigate. A couple of days later, someone from the Consumer Affairs called me and told me that the person was on vacation and would be back next week (which is this week now) and that I would hear from them by the end of the business day. . .Wedneday. So I guess I SHOULD be expecting a callback today. Something tells me that they are going to try to deny me again. . .

. . .and when that happens, I will kindly ask for their corporate information and be prepared to escalate it as high as it can go.

But before that, I will take it to another dealership. . .but what scares me, is that they will have the info already put into the system, so it may be a waste of time driving out of state to another dealership. . .but we shall see.

I honestly think they don't want to do it for me b/c they had to replace the brakes and rotors on the front of the car, free of charge. . .but that's due to faulty work of their own, and can't get mad if I bring the car back for something else, that should fall under warranty.

yeh good luck bud. i have been so lucky to have never had to take a single vehicle of mine in for any kind of warranty. i take as best care of my things as i can. i know there are people who are above and beyond me even, but i think it has alot to do with luck. im hoping my luck continues with my G. let us know what happens.

I am still waiting on a call from my dealer to schedule an appointment to have everything installed. i have no rattles at all currently, i bet whenever they put the new parts on i have all sorts of problems. geez ill be so aggravated.

Spoke to the dealership yesterday and we set an appt for the 10th. They said installation of all parts affected will take about 4 hrs. Since they are replacing my steering wheel, that will take the longest. I do not know if is the whole steering wheel or just the plastic trim around the controls, but I will update you once I get the work done.

i had all of my replacement parts installed last friday. it took them like an hour and half for door handle trim and a completely new steering wheel. I like the finish of the new steering wheel. Looks very nice.

i did notice today going to work that there was a hole in my drivers seat. looks like someone had a screw driver in their back pocket and sat down in the seat and scooted back. is there any sense in calling them to complain? i had the car all weekend... i am very bummed about this....

This seems to be a chronic problem with the 'rubberized' coating on Infiniti steering wheels. Both the '05 M35 and '07 G35 I leased had wear near the audio volume rocker on the steering wheel by the time I turned them in. It's a nice coating, but not durable. The 2010 I have now has a different steering wheel finish, feels a little cheaper, but probably doesn't rub off.

yes the steering wheel that was put on looks like the same as the '10 models.
