Interior Maintenance

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

so this is the first time i've ever had a car that didnt have a black interior......

the stone leather is so light that the drivers side keeps picking up small bits of wool, cotton, cashmere, denim, anything smudges it......and it's driving me crazy...

i even thought of getting a car seat cover because it was annoying me so much.....

ultimately i decided against that cuz it just looked so tacky......

what are some of your tips for keeping light colored interiors clean.... i mean short of wiping it down everyday

just curious

We noticed this in the Showroom, when we were first looking at 2008 EX35's.

We decided against this Color of Interior, for the very reason you mention.

It's a nice Color and "different", however we couldn't get past the Scuff Marks we saw on a Car with only 8 Kilometers on it.

yea....but the grahpite interior looked kinda off with blue slate, plus i think i was hooked with this color combo cuz of the auto show floor model that had the same color combo

the funny thing is, it's not that it's scuffed, it's more like....i guess in this instance, my coat, is like 1/2 wool 1/2 cashmere and when i sit in my car, it smudges easily. If it were scuffed then i'd go buy conditioner and leather prep to keep it in good condition. But this is like.....it's like when you pour a bowl of frosted flakes and some of the corn flakes miss the bowl.... the only problem is it shows up very very apparent on the stone interior.

which no doubt makes me assume Wheat is exactly the same way.

i have the same int, so i feel your pain. The first snow we got this winter i didn't even want to sit in there because i didn't know what my jacket would leave behind. Its ok though, I asked for this int, and the sales manager told me what to expect

so what are you doing to keep it clean, i mean so far a wet microfiber rag has been great, but i feel like over time i will need to do something better

mm i think it also has to do with what you wear etc etc. though i would think jeans would present the same probelm?

considering you guys are in the south, you're not sporting around a big coat that may have touched snow or picked up dirt etc etc

actually i'm wondering if jeans affect the leather.....i've only had car I and II since sept so i've only sat in it with a coat or jacket. I wonder if it is more easily manageable come summer.

sorry, i know i'm like thinking into the thread.....ive only ever had a black interior so this whole process is very new to me lol

I have the wheat interior and no problems with the leather or trim. For spot cleaning of the leather, I use Weiman Leather Wipes. They leave no residue or gloss on the leather. They are supposed to naturally clean, condition and protect. We use it on our furniture inside the house too. I beleive we bought them at Target. Not in Automotive, but with household cleaning products. I have used them for years and have been happy.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, however since the topic is under interior maintenance, I am seeking advice on cleaning the wood trim. The high gloss wood shows smudges. Any ideas? Thanks!

You mean this >>> zerothread?id=471105

There's a lot more information on Ramprun's thread, than just using a Wet Rag.

zerothread?id=461140

btw JCL, being on the East Coast how do you deal with the salt collecting on the sides of the ex? I usually wash it every 2 weeks, and every week if it snows...it snowed last night. The salt loves to build up on the body by the doors. just wondering how you handle that besides, washing it ofcourse. I say this because say i got it washed today, the salt stays on the roads for a 3 days minimum

haha ur in NJ i'm in NY, trust me i feel ur pain.

honestly all you can do is rinse it off, and make sure you spray ur undercarriage.

but i hate the salt, it does stick really easily to this car.... i mean maybe it sticks the same as any other car, but this is the first one where i've noticed it...lol

for some reason alot of it bunches back to the trunk, grabbing stuff out of the back today i was like...EWWWWWWW ....lol (ALSO doesnt help that i've picked up the habit of unlocking the car from the handle vs fob)

haha that's probably cuz you dont have friends who are into cars or into taking care of their cars. If you lived closer this is what would happen....in a hypothetical sense, i did this all the time with my friends when i was living in St. Louis,

you and i would split the cost for the complete line of products ~ for example, the Zaino stuff. Then every other week or two we would get together, and detail the crap out of our cars. and maybe claybar it like once every 2-3 months. It's a fun and great excuse to pop a few beers and work on the cars (very rarely is it ever just a detailing gig, since the gravity towards using an extra set of hands to throw on a CAI, sway bar or pulley is almost always a definite yes)

from what i understand, our leather seats are treated with some kind of polymer that will not absorb any conditioner you apply.
