Hey, I am running a stock keyless entry/alarm system in my 01' QX4. I am wondering if there is a way to add the two front map lights to the system so that they turn on when the alarm is disabled. I have also had some issues with the mid truck dome light, it likes to randomly turn on while driving around corners, lol. This light likes to burn out and I have not replaced it. While I would like to fix that issue, I think it would be more beneficial to have lighting up front as well. I recently owned a 2000 540i and that thing lit up like a Christmas tree when the alarm was turned off! Not really expecting that, as the QX4 has less interior lights to begin with. Would just like more use of the lights that are already there. Any info would be much appreciated.

hmm... you'd need to do a bunch of reqiring to make this possible, since the map-lights are triggered on a "on/off" switch.

The center-dome light and cargo light at least have a connection to trigger off the door-switch to come on, as well as the unlock-mechanism.

Just off the top of my head....
you'd need a bypass to the map-lights. Maybe hook it up with a relay which triggers off of the dome-light triggering mechanism.
So whatever power-wire triggers the dome-light, will trigger your relay, which in turn closes the circuit to power one yoru map lights.

On a unrelated note...
i've been thinking of adding a dimmed LED to the map-light console to turn on whenever the car itself is on. Similar to the newer cars today - how they have a dim light directed onto the gear-selector/cupholders.
