So I guess here's the situation with my problem. When I bought the car basically all the interior light bulbs were blown ( not including cluster ) so the manual pop up headlight button, cruise control, hazard button, dimmer switch and the defroster button. I've recently purchased some 5mm LED's and swapped them in with a resistor.

The defroster button worked just fine so then I started wiring them all up. Then after I plugged everything in and turned on my lights. None of my lights work ( even the defroster button that worked earlier as a test ). Checked as many fuses as I could until I got frustrated and stopped. Any ideas what could cause this to happen? Should I totally replace my buttons and or TCU unit?

Some small notes I've found out along the way.

The defroster button works properly as far as I can tell and the orange little light lights up when I turn it on. Tested the LED again from just a 12v battery and it lights up, so the LED isn't fried as far as I know. When I used the multimeter there was only 0.1+ V going to the connection with the lights on. This is how I am trying to wire them up:

Will double check fuses again but thought I'd ask here for any insight.

PS sorry if this is in the wrong section

check fuses again, but if the defroster button is on your problem is somewhere else. Start with your defroster and take or disconnect all others off. If the defroster is on, start connecting the rest of the lights/buttons one at a time until the defroster one gets turn off. Try to see if a specific light is the source of the problem, or it might even be in the wiring if all the lights checked out good (12 battery test). If you are getting 0.1 volts, is a good indication that something is "shorting" your voltage to ground.

Couple of things that may or may not help.

Be sure you are installing the LED correctly. Most LEDs will only light with power connected one way and will appear dead if power is reversed.

How did you decide on the resistor value? If the value is wrong things won't work either.

This sight may help ensure you have chosen the proper size resistor:http://www.hebeiltd.com.cn/?p=...lator

Other than that just work on them one at a time untill you either get them all working or find your problem.

so double checked all the fuses near the kick panel and all of them are good. Swapped the neg and positive to see if it would light up but no go. Tested the LED manually with a 12v battery, still lights up so its not fried. checked the white box near the fuses too and it looks good. The defroster buttons functions properly and the orange light works just fine, however just the top part doesn't illuminate when I turn on my lights. Wierd?

So currently no little to no power going to my buttons when I turn on the lights. If I was to look for a bad ground, I would have to be ripping out almost the entire dash to find a wire that is touching metal thats not supposed to? Sorry im a big noob especially when it comes to wiring.

As for the resistor, I was just using the resistors that were sent with the LEDS. Supposably they're good for 12v.

Any other suggestions before I rip out the entire dash? ( I really don't want to )

Just a small update as well since my car currently is an auto, I just noticed the light for the gears ( P R N D 2 3 ) now currently do not light up.
