OK, I have a 2008 Rogue SL, 1 year old and also use a Garmin GPS, I've notice that the speed shown on the garmin is not the same as the rogue, ex... I'm doing 100 km hr, garmin reads 96-97 km hr, does anyone else notice a differenc in speed using a garmin or any other gps device ?

My Garmin shows the same as yours. My inclination is to go with the Garmin's reading.

Dido with the Tom Tom. I think the problem might be averaging by the GPS's. Anyhow, I go with what the speedometer reads. LOL

Always go with what your vehicle reads...if you get ticketed for a speed violation and you feel it is b/c of a faulty speedo, IF IT IS FAULTY, you can get a repair shop to fix & sign off that it was faulty....violation should be dismissed. I had this happen in a Jeep with a replaced transmission, repair shop put in the wrong speedo gear and I got busted for 7mph over in a school zone. Repair shop wrote up a paper, changed speedo gear and I took it to cop who signed off on ticket.

My '03 Altima's speedo read about 6 km/h or 4mph slower than both my Garmin Nuvi GPS and my handheld Magellan GPS.

GPS speed readings should be fairly accurate. Some suggest to within 0.5 mph or less.

It is not uncommon for speedo's to read slower than your actual speed.

Normally, the GPS is showing the actual speed. I believe all vehicle speedos are calibrated to show a mph or two faster then you're actually going.

Wow! really?

I know for most provinces in Canada that won't fly. Speeding is speeding, whether your car is broken or not.

Did you notice there is a 0.8% speed difference between the two types of tires offered on the Rogue? Therefore, you cannot be right for both.

Then, you have the calibration of the speedometer (better than the fuel gauge, I hope). I am not sure you want Nissan to spend too much money on that "feature", probably more on a good sound system.

Then you have the use of the tires: When you won't have any more thread on them, the speed won't be the same than with brand new ones.

In conclusion, usually manufacturers make sure the speedometer shows higher speed than real to be sure we won't get a speed ticket when we play with the non official speed limits ( official limits + few mph). But then with the help of a GPS, you can try to get closer to the limit.

that is what happened for me in the state & town I was in....may not be the same everywhere. Myabe this cop was a Jeep lover...who knows.

I'll just go with whay my speedo reads and my POS GPS can barely find me a good route through NYC. My GPS stats are not up-to-the-second so it is useless to use as a speedometer unless you are cruising with CC on.

Some argue that this is an intentional, built in error by the auto makers...makes the warranty run out 5% faster.....Honda Goldwings are the same way..this error has been addressed on almost all auto and motorcycle forums.
