"The following conclusions are achieved, based on this research:

The wear occurred in the highest rate at the beginning of the break-in period. The wear rate then decreased sharply during the first hour. The wear reached its low steady rate after three and a half hours of engine break-in. Accordingly, the wear particles reached a high concentration in the oil after the first hour. Change the oil after one hour would reduce the wear in an engine."

Seems as if it might be a really good idea, especially on the oil-consumption-prone VK to consider doign this, as it may help consumption.

That is completely in line with the practice I have advocated in a number of posts of mine!

Change the engine oil and filter early ... MB recommends in the first few hundred miles!

And, then change other fluids, related to moving parts (like transmission, etc.) once early also.

To get rid of all the initial wear ... no matter well machined a part, it always has some early particle removal!

Z, im sure you realized that I have disagreed with you in this regard, but I think I will change my recommendation similar to yours......

regardless of how much the oil filter can catch, there will always be little bits that can get past it.

Thanks, Wes! The proof is simple: my M45 hardly goes through oil, compared to some of the horror stories we hear now!

On the other hand with a 10 year 100K mile warranty, I would just to keep it performing as new. Limiting engine wear early provides long term benefits later that can't be recaptured.

She got dependable transportaiton for 4-5 yrs. and the raod side asst is great. if the car needs to be keep overnight and she;s away from home, they pay for a hotel room.for $22k it was loaded, leather heated seats traction control abs, v6 power everything. She said to me" dad it's got more stuff than your car!!" (2002Q45sport) A Rav or CRV was 27-29k but Im still changing the oil today. not using synth though. That article really made since.
