When I first picked up my current kouki Q45, I noticed that it had dual pot rear brakes (much like the Z32 and R32/33s), and I just assumed that was unique to the t model, since my zenki Q45 had sliding rear calipers. The rear rotors on the kouki Q, however, were definitely aftermarket as they were cross-drilled... so that already had me going hmmmmm. Then, as I was working on the rear suspension, I noticed that the rear lines were stainless, and then it hit me, even IF some models of Q45s were avl with dual piston rear calipers, they wouldn't have said NISSAN on them, as I'm sure Nissan wanted to separate the two marks as much as possible in the states. So anyway, I came to the realization that the PPO (previous previous owner) of my car had done some modifications to it...

This leads me to last week, when I was measuring clearances for "something" behind the front bumper, and saw what appeared to be a black-coated Setrab oil cooler with Earl's fittings and lines... obviously a transmission cooler. >AHA< This would also explain why the car has the quickest, strongest 1-2 shift I've ever felt from a modern auto-transmission car! I had never given it much thought before, but now it's pretty obvious that the transmission was also modified, and I'm trying to find out what sort of "regular" mods you guys perform on your trannies. Or better yet, what sort of "off-the-shelf" transmission mods are available for these cars? I'm trying to determine exactly what was done on my car, but would like some pointers on where to begin looking.

Oh yah, and another random tidbit: has anyone else had a chance to weigh their Qs? Mine came out to 4000lbs even, give or take 20lbs, with 1/4 tank of gas, a stripped trunk (no panels), no spare tire, and aftermarket 18" wheels. It's a hefty car...!

Sounds like you have the Skyline brakes, are the front calipers 4 piston and say Nissan on them?

transmission mods? Ryan has found a place that does valve body upgrades, and the ULTIMATE in Q trans upgrades is a Level 10 rebuild with revalving and billet converter.

4K lbs is underweight for a Q, so that's good. Something's missing if it weighs that little on 18's.

Yea import trans performance can do a valve body mod, and can also do full blown level ten type rebuilds, and claim their work is more reputable and of better quality then level 10...

No way of knowing this, since nobody has done a rebuild through them... I have a blown transmission sitting in storage that is screaming to be a test baby :)

The rear brakes on my particular car are most likely from a Z32, although it is almost impossible to easily distinguish between a Z32 and R32/33 rear brake setup. The fronts are still the original sliding calipers, and I have been considering swapping either some R32 VSpec black brembos 4 pots, or Z32 4 pots in place. Several years back, a friend and I had made some mounts to run larger size rotors with the OEM 4 pot Nissan/Sumitomo brakes, and that's definitely a consideration right now:

And about the transmission mods... do any of those companies have a distinguishing feature that is noticable from the outside? Like maybe there's a Level 10 transmission oil pan with their logo cast in it, or some tell-tale way to tell what a Q transmission has in it just from a quick look...?

They are, but the prototype was placed on an S13 240SX spindle because that was the main market we were going for. Luckily, brake components are interchangable between the S13/14/15, HG50, R32/33/34, and also the P10/11, so we've all got a lot of options to play around with as far as brakes are concerned.
