When I first picked up my current kouki Q45, I noticed that it had dual pot rear brakes (much like the Z32 and R32/33s), and I just assumed that was unique to the t model, since my zenki Q45 had sliding rear calipers. The rear rotors on the kouki Q, however, were definitely aftermarket as they were cross-drilled... so that already had me going hmmmmm. Then, as I was working on the rear suspension, I noticed that the rear lines were stainless, and then it hit me, even IF some models of Q45s were avl with dual piston rear calipers, they wouldn't have said NISSAN on them, as I'm sure Nissan wanted to separate the two marks as much as possible in the states. So anyway, I came to the realization that the PPO (previous previous owner) of my car had done some modifications to it...
This leads me to last week, when I was measuring clearances for "something" behind the front bumper, and saw what appeared to be a black-coated Setrab oil cooler with Earl's fittings and lines... obviously a transmission cooler. >AHA< This would also explain why the car has the quickest, strongest 1-2 shift I've ever felt from a modern auto-transmission car! I had never given it much thought before, but now it's pretty obvious that the transmission was also modified, and I'm trying to find out what sort of "regular" mods you guys perform on your trannies. Or better yet, what sort of "off-the-shelf" transmission mods are available for these cars? I'm trying to determine exactly what was done on my car, but would like some pointers on where to begin looking.
Oh yah, and another random tidbit: has anyone else had a chance to weigh their Qs? Mine came out to 4000lbs even, give or take 20lbs, with 1/4 tank of gas, a stripped trunk (no panels), no spare tire, and aftermarket 18" wheels. It's a hefty car...!
