I just read that Ford is planning to launch their "new" Ford Bronco this coming July 9th. July 9th happens to fall on the birthday of arguably the most infamous Bronco owner in history: O.J.Simpson. In an even odder twist, the date Ford announced the launch date was June 13, the same date the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were discovered. Ford's insistence that both dates were purely coincidental sounds credible to me, well, unless they were planning a pearl white "Simpson Getaway" model. :) j/k

Thoughts?

If you believe that the dates were just a coincidence, then have I got a deal for you on a slightly used 2002 Pathfinder.

Maybe some marketing guy being independently clever, but I'm sure Ford corporate as a whole was oblivious.

I'm thinking those in charge of Ford's marketing department had no idea either. These are the same people that believe naming a turd shaped electric crossover "Mustang" is a good idea.

Now that made me laugh.

the new Bronco is the real deal as a 4x4. IFS is the only weak link, but it's got good power, decent looks, good clearance, and the 4 banger turbo can be had with a 7 speed manual with a granny gear. Nissan, are you listening? I know you just want to sell the world a bunch of crossover garbage with CVTs......

I am hugely shocked at how un-horrible it is (on paper, at any rate). Two engine options, both with a purpose (e.g. not just a V6 and a turbo V6). Manual available (though only on the engine option nobody wants, which is also the less reliable engine option). TWO or four doors!!!!! I can't believe there's a 2-door! A body-on-frame truck with TWO DOORS! Optional locking diffs (and decent ones at that, for factory options). Removable top.

I'm stunned that it's body-on-frame AND that it offers the 2.7 (which Ford stubbornly refuses to offer in the Ranger, even though it's the only possible way to make the Ranger worth buying).

I figured this would for sure be another Ford execution-fail and be some unibody Explorer based POS or only offer s*** powertrains with 4 doors. They always find a way to screw up a sure thing--it's their company MO.
