Very interesting.

"The solution was relatively simple (all the best solutions are!) and involved amongst other things, replacing the existing cabling from the crank angle sensor with robust shielded cable (and effectively earthed)."

I wonder if they sell the cable separate?

Yes they do (or are about to)

Also a performance shop in Chicago had its own soltuion out that is about to go on sale shortly

I bet that may have led to a number of engine failures with those using FI kits on even "good tunes".

Perhaps now you see why I suggested the APS kit Mr. Fred

1) My thinking also.2) Sorry, too much money ,total is an extra 2.5 k for parts and an extra 2k for install.

The timing scatter as a result of the crank signal is not uncommon on the 350z some are worse then others but it is not significant enough of a problem that nissan will address it. simply because its duration of failure and the fact they dont use FI on it factory. Nissan's general attitude toward their cars is they are built good enough. But if you start adding stuff to it they are quick to point the finger at what you added as the source of the problem. I have gathered over the last couple years with them they love to "pass the buck".
