IT WORKED FOR ME.... I'M NOT THE BEST WELDER IN THE WORLD BUT I WAS SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS. WE USED TO HAVE THE INSTRUCTIONS TO BUILD YOUR OWN KIT WELDER THAT USED THAT STUFF AND IT HAD A CURRENT SWITCH AND AMP REGULATOR FOR HOTTER WELDS.

i would love to put something like that together. it'll take a lot of practice becuase ive never TIG welded, but no matter what i cant get MIG welds to come out clean like that. there is always an amount of splatter that wouldnt look good at all on home made IC piping. exhaust isnt as much as a worry, but ic piping is the first thing that catches your eye, so its gotta be good.

YOU PUT A CLAMP FROM THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE POWER UNIT ON THE METAL BEING WELDED AND YOU CLAMP THE POSITIVE SIDE TO A WELDING STICK (20 THOUSANDTHS WAS THE BEST ONE FOR ME) AND WELD AWAY. WITH THIS SYSTEM THERE WAS A AMPERAGE REGULATOR TO CHANGE THE HEAT OF THE ELECTRONIC DISCHARGE AND A ON/OFF SWITCH.

you couldnt weld aluminum w/ that DC setup. Most people buy a TIG welder so they can weld aluminum

that dc/alternator type of welder has been around for years on 4wd trips/clubs , its how you weld parts back together mid trail so you can complete the trail and go home

yup; no aluminum; tig-aluminum relies on AC currents.

i guess once people start having yard sales in the spring, ill try to get a lawnmower or something and put one together. no sense in dropping 2 grand on a tig welder just to see that i suck at that too. i probably should try to take a class on it, its a nice thing to be able to do right.

at least i can solder real good.
