The September issue of CAR (Brit car magazine) has a interesting article about Infiniti. They mention the history of the company (the original Q45 is mentioned as a "faster sportier drive than the original LS400," and then discuss how the company lost it's way for awhile. Of the current models, the G35 is described as "a genuine 330Ci rival" , and the FX45 as "a Cayanne for 20% less". It also mentions the M45s "glorious eight-cylinder engine, the instant-reponse automatic gearbox and the riveting brakes." CAR is generally a lot more critical of cars than the mainstream US magazines, so getting that kind of a writeup is high praise. They conclude by saying "Infiniti is now the Japanese luxury brand BMW should fear most."

Are all the Infiniti models sold in the U.K. ? The British don't seem to blindly follow BMW like people here do.

Having been a loyal reader of both CAR and EVO (UK's finest, in my opinion), I'd have to say that yes, the Brits do follow BMW, as well as Audi and Mercedes. They are also quite keen on the diesels being offered by BMW. Both magazines offer a refreshing perspective on the automotive industry. It really makes you step back and consider the world market, and the things that make our market so different from theirs.

I think, for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, these UK mags are better car testers than what we have here in the U.S. They seem to be able to convey the driving 'feel' and the driving 'experience' better than domestic publications. On top of that, they still manage to squeeze in all the cold hard data from instrumented tests. Can't leave out the stunning photo work. Absolutely brilliant pictures..top notch write-ups...I can't think of anything bad to say!
