This is probably normal, but Id like to get an idea about this.....

I was driving around the past few days, and at part throttle its odd... When you give it some gas, and it gets up to about 2500 RPM, the car has good power, but then the revvs go down a little, then back up...

If the car has a higher stall torque converter, would it do this... it also shifts MUCH sooner in 1st gear than Id like... I checked, and as far as i can tell its not a JWT TCU, as it doesnt have a JWT sticker on it (the ECU did)

Sounds like the exact same thing is going on in your Q as mine. I don't get it at WOT runs...just about 1/2 to the kickdown plate the funny very controlled rpm drop where something is telling the engine "whoa" and then all is good afterwards all the way up till redline. Wes...I have got an extra 95 TCU that I can send to you to test to see if it works any better. It is my original out of my car as JWT did not need a core because they have so many of the other TCU's sitting on the shelf that are not being put to any use.

It still drives me nuts the funny rpm drop but as long as it does not do it at WOT I can live with it. I had the dealer run the consult while it was doing it and they could not come up with anything at all wrong and the only thing on the readout was something about the TC locking vs. unlocking was the only parameter that changed right before it would do the rpm drop. Sure is a nice car you have there....love the whole looks of it. Can't believe you have got NOS.....that is awesome, but I would have killed myself having NOS at such a young age.

LOL rob..

See the thing is its a very slow, gradual thing like when you ease the clutch in on a manual... its not a very precise thing, but when it shifts to OD in the city its VERY firm.....

I will NOT use nitrous unless Im on the track, or something like that... I have TOO nice of a car (not to be snobby), and I am in WAY too much debt to be crushing this thing... I drive MUCH easier than my old Q, so if anyone hits the car its going to be their fault.....!!!

It should be the converter locking up, this seems to be more pronounced on the 94 and up cars, I have driven 4 Qs all 90-92s and none of them do this, the one 94 I drove via Robs car did what you are describing. How do you like the car so far? Also my 96 G20T does the same thing

The thing is its not really like a "shift" like Robs was and it happens always at the same RPM..

The transmission works fine so i wont lose sleep over it.....

Im still thinking it has to do with the higher stall converter, as my old 94 didnt do this.....

Is this the same 100 rpm dip that Rob astutely noticed and posted about a while back?

Yes it is, and I can get a video of it if need be... Its not like a SHIFT like Robs was (and IIRC this wasnt on the level 10 with higher stall), its more of a dip.. its very gradual, like easing in the clutch...

I also think that you're talking about the torque convertor lock-up/ unlock. The way if feels may vary by how much it slips... I vaguely remember Q45Tech saying that his wouldn't lock up correctly after adding a bit too much Lubegard black.

It is not a shift. It is only a light drop in rpm under moderate acceleration. No known cause as far as I can remember.
